Mike, for a public company, intentionally lying on a financial report would be illegal now wouldn't it?

It has has also been confirmed in many interviews with IMAX personal that the cost is what they are saying.

I never said they were lying or not lying, I just said you can't always trust what you see on the internet. Things have a way of not getting updated, or there are typos, or mistakes or ...yes, lies sometimes.

I still have a copy of a Boxoffice magazine in which Disney said they would "never, ever" release their classic animated movies on video. So you can't always believe what a company says because they can turn on a dime depending on what the circumstances are.

I'm not saying Imax is a bunch of liars (even though they are, with that whole fake-Imax thing they have going on). I just think if I was interested in a public company's financial situation I'd look further than their own published reports, is all.

Mike, cut the dumb-ass bullshit and leave it alone. IMAX has said in financial statements, and interviews that the cost is $20K-$45k for an average DMR film in 2D or 3D.

Quit over-reacting. I never said one thing about the cost of a print. I just said you can't always believe everything you read on the internet. And I am right.

Terry just like Dick Vaughn we had hands on experience with the format for 20 years i was the acting chief projectionist at Ontario Place and I happened to have to approve many of the film print purchases and had very first hand knowledge of the print costs and lab charges from both DKP and places like IwerksRPG

Terry

As of next week I will have been running the IMAX theatre in Bradford for 31 years.

I know how much the distributors ask as an up front guarantee on DMR releases, I negotiate the deals with them.

Over the past 3 years the minimum guarantee for a 2hr - 2hr 30min 3D DMR print has dramatically increased by up to 50%.

Over that same time the number of theatres screening 1570 DMR prints has decreased just as dramatically.

The cost of producing a negative to strike the prints from now has to be spread over far fewer prints / theatres that contributes to the increase in the MG.

As for what any particular company website says you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Company sites don't always get updated as often as they should do.
Trawling over our own web sites I often find information which is months if not years out of date.

The correct title is "Island of Lemurs: Madagascar".

Are you possibly comparing apples and oranges?

The apples being the films whose prints are outright purchased by the theatre which see lab costs.

And the oranges being the DMR films whose manufacture are financed by the minimum guarantee. Surely the latter is going to be more than the print cost alone as they do want to make a profit. Also, if it is getting lumped in with film rentals, on a Hollywood movie there may be top of the line folks who are getting a chunk of the studio gross from dollar one so a guarantee is going to have to be more than a print cost just to break even on that element alone.
