Dear colleagues,
I read with true interest all the subjets or topics that are considered in this forum; I really believe in the value of the forum as a tool of learning through professional experience, for instance. I would like to take part more actively, but I cannot manage in English very well and this is the reason why I must select carefuly the subjects or, on the other hand, back answers.
I have to confess that in this case I have not been able to resist the temptation to deliver some words, because as everybody says, this a matter global view, such as the digital projection in theaters.
According to this, I allow myself to say what I think, leaving clear that it is my personal opinion, which doesn't mean at all that I could be in the possession of truth. And also, that I am not against the technological advances or achivements (I am not so stupid); any king of progress or advence in any field seems fantastic an useful to me.
But what seems not proper to me is the possibility that, unconciosly, someone could mislead (even with half truths) to the independet exhibition market on the tecnological changes, just because these no-truths, as usual, are in favour of the big industry.
I know and understand that we are facing a reconversion process that goes beyond the purely technological things, and I also know that some sectors of our industries are playing or gambling with the future of the traditional exhibition in our theaters or cinemas. The fact that the traditional projection is been erase -blindly and pitylessly-- by digital systems, will irremediably reflect, according to my view, in a progressive diminution of the audience to the theaters. This will happen by a simple sociological question based on previous experiences, and that are translated as "In house I enjoy the same experience as in the thaters or cinemas".
Allow me to extend in a basic explanation on this matter.
All of us will remember what the incorporation to the films of new sound technology systems supposed to be, in clear favour of the business. Now, this technologies are also at the hand of the domestic users or wachers, with the consequent repercussion: no longer is necessary to go to a theater to enjoy thoroughly those sound systems.
As everybody knows digital projections are gaining field in our theaters or cinemas. In very short time those digital projections will also be at home in a massive form, and they will even be able to surpass the quality offered in the theaters. Conequently, not only our audience will go down, but our businesses will go to the bank-rupt, because wi will not be able to recover from the capital invested in the every day buying of new apparatuses or devices in these fields.
Summing-up my points of view:
1.That the industry or controllers of the industry must be clear in their information to the exhibitors of films.
2.That this industry must inform openly about its true intentions.
3.Otherwise, we must suppose that what industry is only looking for is to increase its benefits ("blindly and pitylessly").
4.How? Selling and exhibiting its film or digital products (even in premiers), simultaneously or sincronic, world-wide either to our cinemas or theater or the houses or homes; in that case, as it is known, by pay per view or similar formulae.
It is clear that this commercial policy would be very effective for the interests of the industry, just because we are within a global market, but, at the samen time, very aggressive.
On the contrary, for the independent exhibitors will be translated in a low yield, first of all by the increase of the competition, and secondly by the necessity of a greater time of exhibition in billboard to be able to fulfill the economic terms. Let us be sincere, please.
I would also like, taking advantage of the opportunity that this offers, to make a call to whichever people feel the passion by the projection of films, in traditional form, that they pronounce or declare in defense of the motion picture projection as the proper creation support, and support of exhibition for the audience. By this means, perhaps, we must collect the opinion of whichever professionals also considers, who even without being considered in its just measured by the industry, form the last and unpayable link of that chain that is the cinema.
