Other lighting technology could be adapted to show film, if need be. Does Brazil use NEC projectors? If so, do any of them use the "HS" style lamps? All but the laser and NC900 can and many do. it is a reason that Ushio opened up the UXL line to the digital world. the HS lamp is a film lamp and could be adapted to most any lamphouse so long as they had access to a machine shop to make the adapters (we are talking about machining round things without too much precision...something that a machine shop or a person with a lathe could do). Even "digital" lamps could be used in film projectors. With enough effort, I have no doubt that lasers can be adapter to film projectors too. In chatting with the guy, he services machines from all over the US, and the world. While there are probably a handful of people doing this, it sounds like they are few and far between. This man has a huge warehouse filed with parts and old machines in various states. I asked him if he has an apprentice, and he said he does not. He said his kids were not interested in learning the business, so he would do it as long as he could and then close up shop. While film may be many years from this point, I think it will eventually head in the same direction. Because it is essentially an obsolete technology, and an expensive hobby, it's difficult to see any large number of young people taking an active interest in film. Sure there will be a handful, and enough to ensure there will be "someone" who knows how to run film and service projectors. It will premiere in New York in late fall this year. It's still a "work in progress" so it wasn't the final version and it was missing a few things. (Like credits) But I believe this is one of the first times anyone outside of an editing room got to see it. It was a small, private screening for only about half-a-dozen very select people. (and me!) Steve Wozniak was invited, but they told me that he turned down the invitation by saying: "I'd rather watch it on my I-phone" . . . . .
