When you don't have real image detail, pump up the edge enhancement!  It makes pictures APPEAR to be sharp (if you view them from far enough away). Just don't sit too close.  The Sony HDCAM camera uses 1920 x 1080 pixel CCDs (for a 16:9 aspect ratio), but AFAIK, over half of that limited resolution is lost with the necessary Nyquist anti-alias filtration, and even more with the luminance and chromiance compression of the HDCAM (D11) recording format. Shooting 2.39:1 looses even more vertical resolution by cropping pixels. Compare HDCAM and 35mm Film
