Melanie....look at it this way: If you raise your prices by a quarter, you'll still be WAY LESS than what the chains charge, and you will be using containers that are much better than the bags the chains use, look better, are amazingly easier and faster to fill and carry, don't leak, and most importantly, they project more value to the customer. Your customers will love that it takes your counterperson a fourth of the time (or less) to fill a popcorn order.
You wouldn't believe the compliments we get on our tubs. And people always have a story about "those stupid bags Carmike uses" to go with the compliment.
The other thing they're good for, they make great little storage bins for stuff. I even used one for a lampshade in one of our store rooms -- it needed a shade to stop the light from getting out into the auditorium when the door was open, and the 85oz tub did the trick.
The one and only bad thing about the tubs is the amount of space they take to store. But the counter space shouldn't be too big a challenge: You can put a stack of each size, with 25 to 50 in each stack, and only use a foot or so of counter space, depending on the depth of your counter and how many sizes you have. (We use 24, 46, 85 and 130 ounce.)
I'll bet that if you switch, you'll never look back. But the good thing is, if you DO decide to switch back for whatever reason, you're out nothing except the cost of a couple of boxes of the tubs.

Edward, we buy popcorn, oil and salt from Jolly Time, which is 45 minutes from me. (It's great to live in corn country!) Soda and cups come from our Coke distributor. And bags, so far, have come from Sam's Club. (Best price, free delivery.) We're one screen and have 4-6 shows a week, so I just don't need that much at any given time. I have the room to store just about anything, but not the money to buy huge quantities of anything at once.
Jolly Time doesn't carry tubs, and a distributor in Omaha, who supplies a theatre between us and him, is pretty expensive and won't cut me any deals on delivery. Twice so far I've just begged someone who was already going to be in Omaha to get something for me if I needed it. I think I'm just going to have to take a deep breath and either pay for the delivery, or drive 3 hours each way to Snappy and pick them up.
But I'm still not sure which ones to get; I'd be pretty peeved if I spent a grand on new tubs - when I still have hundreds of bags in the basement - just to find out they leak, too.
