All Regal/UA/Edwards will have the 2wenty installed soon, if not allready. At first they tried playing movietunes alongside portions of the twenty, but now it has been replaced by the looping guitar jingle. Now if they would just bring back the roller coaster... Beleve it of not, I would love some movietunes disks! These are not all Top 40 hits. You'll never hear some of this stuff played on the radio. It always includes bad remakes, songs that have nothing to do with movies, and each month plays at least ONE song from the previous month. Come on, it's one track on a CD that repeats. The least they can do is put all new songs on each month. Because of MovieTunes, I want to shoot myself everytime I hear American Women by Lenny Kravitz. It's embarrasing to me to walk into a theatre where soshi "is taking it back to the old school." People laugh when they hear this stuff because some think it's a joke. After they hear that it is in fact MovieTunes (which doesn't include any movie tunes at all) a look of despair comes over their face as they realize they will have to listen to this until the movie starts. With more and more advertising being targeted to specific demographics, why do we still play ONE CD!!! Think of it this way: Technicolor ads have to be manufactured on film (somewhat expensive) and physically spliced onto a movie specific to rating and sometimes title. MovieTunes is manufactured on CD (cheap) and is easily changed by removing a CD and putting in a new one. Most theatres have the capability to play at least 5 CDs. Yet, here we are, mostly every theatre chain playing the same CD with the same songs that don't change from month to month or from theatre to theatre. I have been a pathetic victim of his music for 6 months (when I started working at the local theater). When you're closing down the concession on a long Friday night, his music gets to you, and not in a very nice way. One time, when no one was looking, I engraved "Soshi Must DIE" in the back of a cabinet with my popcorn scooper. The next day my manager confronted me about some graffiti in the back of some cabinet. I told him it was probably just mice. It's hard enough for small local businesses to survive without their local theatre advertising their out-of-town competition. BTW - Chris Eric Stevens has no input what-so-ever on the content of the disks. He's just a hired "voice" who reads what they tell him to read. I think it's quite the opposite. If the advertising is for out-of-town competition, it's not going to negatively affect local business. People would hear it & say "Why do they have a commercial for that? We don't even HAVE a (Starbucks, Fridays, whatever) here!" I remember liking it back in the late 90s when I was working at the AMC. What's on the playlist this month? And be fair! Don't just list the songs you hate. But by all means, list the ads too. I want a complete mental picture. Question -- Now that MovieTunes has been taken over by NCN and they are accepting paid advertising, do the theatre operators still have to pay for the discs? It used to be a subscription service back when the company was owned by one of O.J. It didnt seem to have advertising at all, just C.E.S. annoincing the title of all the songs and the motion picture SOUNDTRACK they were from. That was it. Why can't they leave a perfectly good song alone? It was great in its original version in 1978. Has anyone attempted to "tamper" with the disc and burn a new copy nixing the songs you hate?
