quote: Frank Angel UA at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn not only has their staff come in during the credits to clean, but have no problem chatting with each other even though they are three or four rows from each other so this is not a subdude whisper, but a full-blown converstation even though there were at least half a dozen people who were still sitting through the credits. Incredible.
I'll go you one further: included in that conversation are the words "fuckin'", "bitch-ass" and "shitty" which some cleaning crews have used while cleaning, and yes there are still people in the auditorium fully within earshot.
This happened for years at the Cattleplex known as Silvercity in Victoria, BC, a stadium seating cinema that is better these days, but ideally not a good place if you want to WATCH movies. Not only were the cleaning crews annoying, but as soon as they got to your aisle they sat around you giving you the evil eye, trying to chat you up to get you to leave.
In fact, one time years ago I went to see a movie and sat for the credits, and a group of 9 or 10 cleaning staff hovered around the entrance, obviously annoyed. As soon as I passed them, not one of them said a word to me and they all snickered laughter as I left the auditorium. Well excuse me for staying until the REAL end of a movie.
They have new management now which seems to have fixed the problem whenever I do go (which is rare). But this and the cranking of the cleaning lights during the credits keeps me away on busy nights.
As for my stupid floor staff story, the worst was when I viewed "Happy Feet" at an IMAX theater here in Victoria. One floor staff member asked me to leave during the credits because he wanted to get the next show in. I refused, saying that my ticket price included the entire film and I would leave when it was over. He then accused me of sneaking into the next show. Some verbal sparring commenced, I then demanded a full refund, he walked away and I went home pissed off as hell. What great customer service!
So yeah, floor staff can be annoying.

quote: If you are feeling very limber, find someone's leftover bag of popcorn (seems that every movie I've been to has someone who eats 5% of their expensive corn) and pour it on the floor or aisle. Less vandalism that way. [Smile]
Somebody would have to really grind my gears for me to do that...Having worked every position from usher on up as well as a brief stint in retail it always ticks me off how slobbish people are -- the ones that leave their trash in, on, and around their seat, the ones that put 50 things in their shopping cart and put 45 of them back in some random place.
If you have a problem you feel that adamant about the only solution is to find somebody who cares about their paycheck and let them know how big of an ass they look like because of their workers.
Case in point, a certain pizza chain a while back gave me marinara sauce after putting the cup on the floor to fill it -- right in front of the prep table. After extending the courtesy to the franchise owner by contacting them and reporting the incident I was given credit to the store -- which I really didn't plan on using. About 2 months later helping an in-law move we decided to use the credit. Not only was the staff sloppier than ever (spotted 2 minor health code violations and 1 fire code violation) they couldn't figure out how to look up credit in their POS. The manager-on-duty couldn't be bothered to help -- no one knew what they were doing. I will never go back there again and was quite delighted to turn them into the health department.
And in my experience....have you ever had new employees that always make things harder on themselves? Ever notice new kids count money by starting with the largest bills first?
Counting a drawer, for example, they almost invariably go "okay, $110 in fives, plus uh, $75 in ones, plus..." and so on. Wouldn't it be easier to start from the quarters up? "one, two, three, four, five," then ones "six...twenty-five", etc.?
And counting change back to the customers? Oh lawdy...
