I've replaced the heating elements in the dryer, and the agitator cam assembly in the washer. I "inherited" one about ten years ago and it has always worked flawlessly. It is now about twenty-five years old and I have only ever had it serviced once (preventive maintenance, lubrication, etc.). The bags are expensive, though. At least it seems to be well built, unlike some of the other "boutique" brands, which are no better than the cheap ones. I have also had good luck with Hoover uprights from the 1970s. There is still one on my family from that era and, aside from occasional belt replacements (and maybe one new motor), it has always worked well. As for washers and dryers, the laundromat that I use has Maytag front-loading washing machines and Huebsch (?) dryers. They have been in use for at least the last decade and possibly much longer. The Maytags have an annoying flaw that causes them to occasionaly stop in the first few minutes of a cycle and need to be reset. Otherwise, I have had no problems with them. I would be reluctant to get a front-loading machine for home use, though, due to the possibility of door or seal failure.  |  IP: Logged Steve Guttag We forgot the crackers Gromit!!! When my lady lived with me, it was easier as she helped, but it was always a terrible chore which I really hated. When I lived alone it even got worse because now I had to fold, which I just couldn't bring myself to do and so the cleaned, fluffy dried cloths would be dumped on one half of the bed. And there it would stay as I simply pulled what I needed out of the huge pile by day, and shared my bed with the pile at nite. Now I am sharing my bed again and she needs that side of the bed so what to do? Well I found the BEST washer-dryer FOLDING machine ever invented --it's this number you call, a guy comes to the door, takes the sack of dirties, and two days later, sometimes only one and a half days, and here he comes on his bike with your washed, fluffed dried AND FOLDED cloths....I said FOLDED! boys and girls!! How in all these years on the planet I only discovered this modern invention this late -- the local laundry, all those nights having to nuggle up to a pile of tee shirts and socks -- I will never no. FORGET finding the best washer and dryers, find a good laundromate that has drop off / pickup service, or better yet, pick up and delivey service to your door because it beats any washing/driving machine from ANY manufacturer. It's worth its weight in GOLD, I tell you. (kinda) Laundry service here in Bloomington is way too expensive and almost all of the companies get bad ratings. I used to get my shirts dry-cleaned when I lived in Long Beach for about $1 each. It's nearly $5 each here. "Fluff & Fold" (hehe) is similarly overpriced and -- again -- there are those bad ratings. How else would you spell "vacuum" ?
