I've seen people in there everyday since the chatroom update. I think it must just be a timing issue.

Adam: Opera actually shows the screen the way the site HTML code specifies it, IE and Netscape have "non-standard" format tags that are not part of the official HTML language and are ignored by Opera. This is a religious issue with the Opera people, and is somewhat understandable - HTML has become a standard and continually adding "extensions" is what XML is for, not HTML.

I'm sure if another <br> tag was added between each link that there would be space between them in Opera. Try downloading the HTML source (along with the button graphics) and edit it and try it.

I like everything about the new layout of the site and the chatroom is definatly seeing alot more action. The only thing i don't like is the autologoff in the chatroom. maybe if it was set for a longer time period it wouldn't be so bad.

This comes back to topic, so hold on here ...

What I was talking about is the spacing between lines of text. Here is a side-by-side-by-side comparison of Opera 6, Netscape 4.08 and MSIE 5.5. You can plainly see the differences in how text and tables render.

The graphic for "cinemas around the world" is inside of a table. Opera correctly renders the table with cellspacing, cellpadding and border all = zero, where both NS and IE incorrectly pad the table. After the table, for some reason, Opera has seen fit to insert a gaping hole in the page.

In the text block, you can see by the red lines I drew in that Opera does not use a standard line leading. I bet if I typed lower case "g"s across one line and capital "T"s across the next line, the letters would touch.

Anyway, for the links on Film-Tech to render fairly close across all three platforms, they would need to be placed in a table with each link in its own row (<tr> ) and cellspacing set to 10 or 15. Adding line breaks (<br> ) would only space them out the bottom of the frame for NS and IE.

With that said, I'm off to the chat room ... there's 8 users online.

I LOVE programming HTML tables. They are just plain fun (but only if you do it by hand in a text editor... none of this Frontpage/Composer/Etc CRAP and I do mean CRAP!)

Ok Joe, then why are you sitting on your butt right now? People here are assuming you had something to do with the new site design and are giving you credit. Time to earn that credit! Get to work and email me how you feel the top left frame should be since I won't have the time to mess with it again until the weekend.

Thanks. That's because both Opera and myself only like WC3 HTML compliant code. Front Page, Dreamweaver, Netscape Composer etc do not create pages in the proper standard. They should be banned!

I use good old Notepad. The best HTML editor out there.

Have you ever tried to read the output of one of those other "applications"?

MS Script Debugger is my editor of choice. It's basically just a glorified version of Notepad, but at least it color codes the HTML to make reading it a little easier. It also doesn't put in all of the garbage code that most of the other editors do.

Color coding is nice, but I usually use tab indexing to make sure the code looks clean. Notepad is nice, but the only problem I have with it is the semi-ugly font. Can you change fonts in Notepad? Not really super important I guess.

I use a Mac and I always write code in BBEdit. I save as DOS text with DOS line breaks, otherwise the code apprears as one single never-ending line to a Windows user.
