In Atlanta, GA, it is always a coke (if you are from around here). Atlanta, after all, IS the home of Coca Cola. The term coke is used in many cases, even if you want a Pepsi or something else. Of course since the majority of people in Atlanta are from somewhere else now, it is likely to be any of the terms. (I am one of the few Atlanta natives left. We are a small minority anymore.) My wife is a yankee from New York, so the term soda gets used in my house a lot.

In australia they are simply called soft drinks.

Here in Ohio it it Pop, but since I work at a theater with mostly east coast kids that go to the local university I call it Soda. But I did grow up saying pop. I have no clue why I switched from pop to soda years ago.

Is it a creek or a crick?

In Detroit (in the 80s) it was pop.
Here in The Bahamas, it's soda...and Coke is often referred to as "Coke soda"

For some reason 'pop' always annoys me. I grew up saying and still say 'soda', and once in a while, 'soda-pop'.

Does anyone outside of Wisconsin call water fountains 'bubblers'?

You get a crick in your neck and ticks from the creek. Both bad. Really bad. FIRE BAD!!

(Phil Hartmann Frankenstein reference. I don't know why I went there. But I think Frankenstein was call a Coke "soda" and "pop" is what he would do to a neck --or maybe just put a crick in it.)

Bubblers are those things that keep the fruit punch and lemonade stirred up and cold.

IMHO, bublers don't do much of anything. They send lemonaid/fruitpunch up the middle and down the side of a clear plastic tank, and back again. Only usefull in marketing the product, nothing else.

Around Boston, MA its mostly "soda" or "coke"...a lot of the employees at my theatre call it "coke" even though we sell "pepsi". It is a little misleading for those coke lovers like me! Everytime I hear them ask if the customers wants a "coke" I flip....I want my COKE--Coca Cola! :P

Mike, ever seen lemonade in a bubler (JetSpray) that wasn't running for a few days? I sure wouldn't want to drink it. (Ok I have, it's bad! Iced Tea is even worse.)

No Seriously Well in jolly ole England we call it pop. Well at least we oldies do.

Soda is fizzy water that you put ( or don't!) in you whisky(or whiskey) or brandy.

As for root beer its

well in central texas (in some places) its called "coke" which includes any type of soft drink, if you go into east texas its called "soda water" and of course if your near waco tx, (30 min away from me) its DR. Pepper (The most DR. Pepper consumed anywhere in USA, is in central TX and Waco is the home of Dr. Pepper) if one says "pop" they are usually asked "what" and called a yankee, or something....like that, well later ya'll

Rachel, you and me both. I get very angry when I am at a restaurant and order a Coke and they bring me a Pepsi without saying anything about it...like I'm not going to notice! Now I can drink Pepsi and deal with it, but I have to know it's coming so I can brace myself. If I am doing the fast food thing, I tend to base my choice upon whether they will have Coke or Pepsi and avoid the Pepsi places.

That being said I do have Pepsi in my counter electric unit, but it hardly ever gets used (only when there are visitors).

A manager I used to work with had an interesting theory. He said the younger the customer was, the sweeter they liked their drink. As such, he said "watch as all of the kids order Dr.Pepper". He was right, they ALL did. Then he pointed out that it's generally the younger teenager crowd that prefers Pepsi over Coke, and as the people get into their 20s, 30s and up they mostly want actual Coke. I don't know how much validity there is in that statement, as I've always been a die hard Coke fan since birth, but he has had me watching people for years off of that one conversation and most of the time his theory does indeed hold up!

By the way, I must agree the term "pop" is just stupid sounding. "Soft drink" or "beverage" or "soda" is ok, but "pop"?
