When I first moved up to Minneapolis from Wisconsin I was at my theatre one day and asked one of my ushers to go and clean and polish the bubblers. The kid was sometimes a smart-alec so he looked at me and gave me a double take and just stood there. I again told him to go clean the bubblers, getting kind of annoyed that he wouldn't do it. He then asked me what was a bubbler. I again thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. I then had to explain to him the history of the "bubbler" drinking fountain.
(The Kohler company in Eastern Wisconsin came out in the early part of the century with a drinking fountain that "bubbled" like an artesian well at all times. It was called a "Bubbler" and the name stuck in Wisconsin.)
BTW, I call it soda (as does most of Eastern Wisconsin), but once you get to the west side of the state, or into Minnesota its referred to as pop. Makes life difficult when you have a waterfall that makes alot of noise in your lobby and people mumbling so that you don't know if they want a beverage or some corn.

I've lived in or with 20 miles of Nashville, Tennessee my whole life. Here... it's called "Coke". I remember as a teenager working at the local Dairy Queen, customers would ask, "What types of Cokes do you sell?" We'd always reply "Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7up, Root Beer or Mountain Dew." That's how we referred to them and it was accepted as the norm. Nashville being a big tourist town... if we had a "northerner" come in and ask for a soda, they'd usually get upset as they were handed a blended icecream product that contained some type of flavoring and carbonated water! They'd say "What is this?" We'd say... You asked for a Soda!" I once dated a girl from Toledo, Ohio who asked me one night if I'd like to have a "Pop"? I was thinking to myself.. "I can't believe she asked me that in front of her parents!!"?  Then she said, "How about a Red Pop?" I was clueless. When she asked if I liked "Ho-Ho's"......I wasn't sure how to respond. There IS a difference between the north and south!! ------------------

A popular conversation in Oklahoma goes as such:A waitress asks, "what do you want to drink?" "I'll have a coke." I'll respond. "We only have Pepsi," she replies. "Can I have a Dr. Pepper," I inquire, which is how the situation usually resolves itself. "Yeah, we have Dr. Pepper," the waitress responds. If I want to be a total asshole, I'll yell out: "I WANT A FUCKING MR. PIBB, GODDAMMIT!!!!" And if they actually deliver, they are put among the list of the "righteous few restaurants who know how to serve a carbonated prune juice drink the right way." MR. PIBB ROCKS, GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeaah-ahhhh!
