After I rudely insulted him to no end, he begged me for a chance to let him explain. I said, "No, I will not - now get off my telephone and don't call me again." Then he immediately switched to the _feel sorry_mode that I won't donate. At that time, I told him to basically sit on the splintered end of a flying broomstick and do three spins in the counter-clockwise direction.  |  IP: Logged Gerard S. He admitted he was not a policeman, but went into the various dramatic spiels Bobby and Paul described. I hung up. The NYPD has disassociated itself from any such solicitations, and the NYS attorney-general requested anyone getting such appeals consult the NYS list of registered non-profit charities and to beware of any scams. My opinion is that all such appeals for support to orphans of uniformed forces through telemarketers are rackets, and the money goes to criminals. The NYS Do-not-call list has been working well, and I read that thirteen states have submitted their similar lists to be merged with the national registry list. (The phone number for both NYS and national lists are now the same, and the sign-up deadline has been extended from August 31st to October 1st.) Latest newsbreak is that another federal judge has again blocked the implementation of the list after the bill authorizing it passed the House and Senate. The struggle goes on. I think the national telemarket association must be spending huge sums attempting to influence Washington through lobbyists and campaign contributions. Somehow I think that number is more than a bit inflated. I think I said it before; if the list goes into effect perhaps companies might spend a little more money on print advertising and give some struggling graphic artists some work. Here's another thing. Nearly every American hates phone marketing, with the only exceptions being the businessmen making a bunch of money in that industry. Some of the hatred for phone marketing needs to get back to the asshole companies who hire telemarketing firms to hard sell their products through the phone lines. Corporations need some consequences over that. Yup you guessed it, those soliciting on behalf of politicans are exempt. They can still harass you during dinner time. My wallet burned down with all my money and credit cards in it. Where were you people?!?" An easy way to deal with all telemarketers (EVEN exempt ones) until the list goes into effect for you is to say to the caller: "Please place me on your 'Do Not Call List'." (National Public Radio) this morning. There was a segment about telemarketing and the D.N.C. list. According to the article, there is a grassroots movement afoot where people stall, waste time and generally jerk the telemarketers around like they do on "Crank Yankers". (the TV show) The theory is the more of the operator's time you waste, the lower their productivity ratio goes and the higher their marketing costs get. They are hoping to make the cost of telemarketing so high that companies stop trying to sell their junk over the phone. The moral of the story is that everybody who gets a telemarketing call should do whatever they can to totally FUCK with them. See how long you can keep them on the phone and try to be as outrageous as possible. Hey! I think it he him that NPR interviewed for the segment. The point of the article was twofold: 1) Let's all do this kind of thing to telemarketers and make it as EXPENSIVE as possible for them to do business. 2) It's his brand of comedy. He makes good money (as good as comics can make) doing this. So...
