I guess it's simply because Stalin's or Mao's "purges" were mostly "internal" and therefore somewhat remote events while many countries were directly affected by the war Hitler started. I guess for countries which at the time were just as deeply nationalist, it must have not sat very well being overrun in 3 weeks (like France, for instance) or being on the receiving end for a change (like the "British Empire" which incidentally lost a lot of its colonial territory as a consequence of WWII). I would almost go as far as saying, that from a certain point of view, the complete sinisterness (if such a word exists) of the NS regime, was a welcome excuse for other nations to detract from the skeletons in their own closets. Like again France, for instance, which immediately after the war went on to fight bloody colonial wars in Vietnam ("Indochine") and Algeria and which to this day hasn't fessed up to the crimes committed there. But that's just one of thousands of examples.
