I was thinking of a visit to the York Picture House; there aren't too many cinemas that have upgraded to 70mm in recent times. Also, probably quite a few of us probably haven't had a chance to look at a DLP setup yet.
On a similar theme, and going back to the NJ/Loews Jersey thing, how about an East Coast get-together sometime next year to pay them a visit when they have their 'new' DP-70s up and running? I've seen them in pieces on the floor of the lobby, and they seem to be in good condition. We should support people who are doing this sort of thing. There's still a lot of work to be done there; I doubt that I will see it finished in my lifetime, but at least they are putting on shows, and the future of the building now looks secure.
Also, not to far away is the lafayette in Suffern NY. It's only a few hundred metres out of New Jersey. A very nice theatre, and equipped to run 3-D. Is there any chance of a smaller version of the 3-D festival which took place last year on the other side of the Country being brought East? For both events I would come over if I could arrange time off work, which would probably need a few weeks notice.

Well, there are plenty of former cinemas which have been converted into churches.
There's an interesting building in London. It was built as a fairly early cinema, in the style of a Mosque. It eventually closed as a cinema, and had various other uses for a while, before being abandoned and boarded up. A few years ago it was restored and re-opened as, guess what, a mosque. I wonder how many people who see it for the first time today realise what its origins were.
