Marshall Film God Posts: 3188 From: New Castle, DE, USA Registered: Aug 2002 posted 07-26-2005 10:27 PM                    Anyone else watch the launch on HD-Net? That was awesome. They didn't show the external tank camera views at first, but I saw them later on the NASA channel or something. Also, at a press briefing, NASA showed pics and video of "debris" coming from "somewhere" and passing by the shuttle. They also had two pictures of a bird that apparently didn't realize that that giant thing in front of it was about to move upward into its path... the first photo showed the bird colliding with the top of the shuttle's external tank, and the second showed it falling down the side of the tank. That must be pretty boring most of the time. What do they show during sweeps? I don't see why we can't do all of this space stuff for free. Money is just imaginary anyway. We say a little piece of paper has value, but does it really? No. Give up money and do everything for free. Everyone gets everything for free, and as much as they want. Obviously ALL of the world's problems would be solved if we did this, and we'd all hold hands and sing songs in unison about the rainbow or something.  |  IP: Logged Daryl C. W. Today’s activates is operations the crew will have breakfast and later NC 2 burn will be made to catch up with the ISS the will take place in 1Hrs.25Mins. In fact, setting in a cinema and doing duties like making sure the booth floor is clean, making-up new prints as and when they turn up, running the show doing a manual lens change over from 1.85:1 w/s to 2.35:1 scope checking the Dolby CP processor fader level focusing the lens, need I go on….  |  IP: Logged Daryl C. That's the top of a V5 with a Cat 701 on top of it. The External tank shot was dam good, I wonder if that went back through Discovery's systems or if that was a camera and xmitter just mounted to the tank itself???? The image stayed clear until the fuel lines were severed and got noisy, then at that point it looked like they switched to a different frequency and it cleared right back up. Anybody out there that doesn't believe we went to the moon will soon have relible proof! And let me add to this I for one do believe man stepped upon the moon from July 20th 1969 to December 19th 1972. Arr the mission is now into its 1Day 6hrs into the flight of (STS-114 Discovery) return to flight and the orbiter is in fine shape all is going smoothly, while the crew of Discovery are now in the sleep shift and with tomorrows duties of the link-up soft dock with the (ISS) at 6am:18 CT central time, looking forward to seeing live coverage on NASA television with every 90min orbit the shuttle gets closer and closer to the (ISS)... But this is still only a test flight mission, and the learning curves are still trial and error, and the high risks are always there. I think NASA is been very curious so far, and taking this mission step by step and learning more data to understand and modify future Shuttle orbiters, so that this doesn’t happen again or more often in the future missions. $100,000,000 million dollars have been spent on this most technological machine, its disappointing that these carbon tiles wont stay put during accent, but the vibrations are more powerful than the biggest (IMAX sound system) so lets not go to far over the top on these issues shall we. 1.8in, in size the tile is there about. Thousand of people have worked on this for the past 2 ½ years, and is the moral still high with the technicians. Its possible that the last three missions modifications where done that may have started this thread, with tiles dropping off more commonly than before. Super-computers are been used when testing in a wind-tunnel to see the stresses. They placed the EXT-tank in the wind-tunnel to test this to the highest dynamics, and still in flight it’s having problems, the answer as to be the simplest one and is eluding NASA at this point. NASA say there not ready to fly again, this is a major disappointment, after all the work, perfection is NASA goal, going into space is a dangerous risky business,  |  IP: Logged
