It was pretty to look at, but I did not find the story engaging, nor the characters interesting. I was ready to hunt down and shoot that guitar player after playing that theme over and over and over. The most annoying score since THE THIRD MAN. And, I really thought Heath Ledger was channeling Billy Bob Thornton's SLING BLADE character. CRASH was a much better movie. It grabbed on at the beginning and didn't let up. It was tense but real. It was truly an actor's dream film. But, the truly best film of the year was WALLACE AND GROMMIT.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. Basically the worst Oscar show ever, no surprises except the rap group, which was really funny. Crash was an upset, but it had a lot of buzz the last few weeks. Stewart was funny, but I don't think the crowd dug him. It seems watching a movie at the theatre is the approved AMPAS method. That's great! Maybe the comments were a way of responding to the thought of simultaneous theatre/DVD/internet release by some distributors.  |  IP: Logged Claude S. I know it was there so it could rise above the speakers voice if they ran over, but it reminded me of DJ's on the radio who try to voice-over music that is so loud you can't hear either. I also liked the fake political ads. Jon Stewart I can take or leave but he was OK. The opening with clips of former hosts declining to do it again was funny. Reese Witherspoon is awesome. It's a shame that Don Knotts etc. won't get recognized until next year, but hopefully they'll get their moment because they deserve it. Once again, they snubbed a core Star Trek actor: James Doohan died in 2005, and I don't think he got any mention. Bah. So, I guess I missed the last seven hours. I thought the opening with all the former hosts was pretty funny and Ben Stiller's green screen skit was pretty funny. Other than that, the show was ! I didn't care about any of the movies that were nominated. They overlooked the best movie of 2005, Alone in the Dark! That movie should've won every single oscar! (In case you didn't realize, I'm being sarcastic.) When I win an oscar, I'm gonna thank the unsung heroes of the movie industry, the projectionists. Now, all they gotta do is come up with a new category for me. Maybe best supporting lazy-ass. That oscar has my name all over it. By the way, the rap group that won Best Original Song was the Three 6 Mafia. I listen to a lot of underground rap music, so I know all about the triple-6. He absolutely deserved that award. I was also happy to see that W&G won Best Animated Feature. Jon Stewart is no Billy Crystal. The acceptance speech should be limited to an absolute max of 5 seconds. We don't need the long winded yammering. I too wore out my mute button last night.
