Thanks, Joe, but I'm still confused.

I'm editing film on a Steenbeck, so I can't do anything there which would affect the quality of the captured file. I transferred the film to tape and captured the tape on the SGI.

The SGI box captures directly to Quicktime (or, at least, something whose filenames end in .mov and which play in Quicktime Player...err...Itunes...or whatever they're calling it this week).
