For Jane Fonda or anybody else, I don't care what their opinions are so long as they don't try to use their celebrity status to advance their opinions over those of others. All Jane did was star in a few movies and get naked. That's just about the same thing Anna Nicole did only she didn't bother trying to get into movies first. She just got naked. The thing that really peaves me off is that those people's problems are made more important than Tim's or Tony's or mine or anybody else's just because they are celebrities. Sure! They've got a right to their problems. They can talk about their problems just like anybody. To be honest, it sometimes IS fun to hear about the lives of stars. It helps distract attention away from the things that make me feel unhappy for a little while. But, again! Their problems aren't any more important than mine... Unless she came over to my house and got naked! That's probably not true. I think if you happen to agree with the "celebrity" in question, you don't mind when he/she uses his/her popularity to bring his/her opinion across. But those celebrities which happen to support an opinion other than your own make you angry because their voice is heard louder than yours. Do you think German artists such as Marlene Dietrich or Ernst Lubitsch (who may not have been that "popular" as a person, but who directed the extremely popular and biting satire "To Be Or Not To Be") were "wrong" when they used their popular influence against the NS regime? I don't. I think they were great persons for protesting in the ways available to them against a regime they did not agree with instead of just leaning back and maybe making more money in mindless entertainment. And it doesn't matter here who is voicing whatever opinion in whatever situation. What counts is that in some situations, people can do that, and in some they can't. I think you should never resent anybody for voicing their opinions publically, in whatever form, whether you agree with them or not, because there were - and still are - a lot of situations in which people, no matter how popular or not, were not allowed to do that. I couldn't help but notice that any potential fathers associated with her would probably run away as soon as she had a baby. That's your right to decide. If he said something like that I would disagree with him too. As the the question of Marlene Deitrich fighting against the Nazis. When all other dissenting opinions are suppressed by the regime the ONLY ones that can speak out are celebrities because they are above the consequences. It was with great sadness to hear about the death of one of the silver screen's most promising actresses. The Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences has missed an opportunity to honor her in the future for a lifetime achievement award (like most screen greats, the members usually overlook these actors until they are on death's door). Who could forget her subtle comedic turn as Tanya Peters in THE NAKED GUN 33 1/3? Or the tragic yet touching Za Za in the Coen Brothers' HUDSUCKER PROXY? (Well, I could, but a quick search on IMDB helped refresh my memory). Who knows what great screen roles or charitable causes lay in her (and our) future? True, she wasn't up there with Mamie Van Doren or Pia Zadora, but who could be? Anna, R.I.P.
