As for whiners, they are everywhere. I've never had a problem with the 16mmforum, that I can recall.

THIS site is professional, I think.

I've been on the 16mm forum for several years and have never seen anyone being less that professional, friendly and enthusiastic.

I am aware of the worm gear issue. I know mine is cracked because it runs really loud. I was planning on finding replacement parts at some point (my take-up belt needs to be replaced too). I Tried to order some lamps and exciters from magnatech, but after a few emails where I tried to buy some items they didn't seem to want to bother.

I should look into the FT 16mm forum, might be cheaper and less annoying than ebay to get prints [Smile]

I hope you're not a dimwit dumbshit by using that projector and risking damaging prints!

There are several gears for sale on eBay and on the Urbanskifilm.com site as well as those that are willing to rebuild that projector.

ha ha I am a dimwit dumbshit at times... we all have our moments...

I'm not too concerned about it as far as damage goes, it's a smooth movement. I suspect it's a hairline crack. I'm hoping to get a new one shortly (mostly just to have it run quieter).

I actually sent a request for parts to a company called "KMR Electronics" about an hour or two ago to see if they'll hook me up with what all I want.

And since 16mm is a hobby, I think I'd rather rebuild it myself for entertainment sake. (after paying to ship the thing around I could probably buy a "new" one off ebay anyways).

KMR is a good place. They had a huge 16mm machine liquidation several years back. I picked up a mint condition Elmo 16CL for $10.00 [thumbsup]

Okay, I'm slowly sliding back into 16mm film collecting. I still have a B&H 1574 from long ago, but some of the xenons I've seen on the Urbanski site look damned good to me.

So, what do you guys like for a good portable 16mm xenon (500-watts or so)? Eiki? Elmo? What's the best one out there?

So I got a reply back from KMR Electronics...
He suggests that I shouldn't try replacing the worm gear and bearings without the alignment tools. I was just curious if anyone one had experience with this? (on a B&H 2585)

My understanding is that the worm gear is difficult to replace, anyway, and that you really do need the alignment tools to re-assemble the machine properly. KMR can probably do the repair, as they seem to have some knowledgable 16mm technicians there. International Cine can also do this. I'm not sure who the "official" B&H service provider is now.

You might be better off just buying one of the NOS B&H machines that International Cine is selling on Ebay or buying a good, used Elmo and replacing the rubber rollers (which can turn to goo if the machine is stored somewhere hot).
