How TRUE! After all the GOOD beers like Bud, Heineken, Miller, Corona, and others, etc, are gone, only Shitz...errrrr I mean Schlitz is left. And when that's gone...you're outta beer! The sound of shit hitting the fan." I heard that one a long time ago from one of my dad's Marine Corps friends. Regarding the weakness of American beers, yes I agree the big name brands (Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, Miller, etc.) are indeed weak. You get a hint of beer taste, but it's mostly metallic, watery horse piss. And here in Oklahoma, those "domestic" beers are even more of a waste of time since they're diluted further to a 3.2% limit of alcohol by volume. You've gotta exercise your bladder just to get a buzz. But that's not the whole story on American beers. This country has dozens of well established "craft" breweries that create beers with real flavor. Some are pretty strong. For instance, "Raging Bitch" from Flying Dog Brewery is 8.3% ABV. I've seen some craft brews go above 10% ABV. Here's a few "mass production" American craft breweries I believe are worthy of note: Boulevard Brewing Co., Kansas City, Missouri Choc Beer, Krebs, Oklahoma Flying Dog Brewery, Aspen, CO; relocated to Frederick, MD Left Hand Brewing Co., Longmont, Colorado Rogue Ales, Newport, Oregon Shiner Beers, Shiner, Texas It seems like the Rate Beer web site is pretty biased against most beers that are available on any sort of widespread basis. At the same time I've had a few beers that scored in the 80-90 percentile that tasted awful to me. Judging a good beer is a pretty subjective thing. But I will agree totally with Rate Beers' 99% score on Chimay Bleue. That's just a fantastic Belgian Trappist beer. I wish it didn't cost so much (over $20 for a 3 pack gift set). BTW, Corona was mentioned earlier. Only "gringos" drink Corona. For Mexican beer, I'll pick Bohemia, Dos Equis, Modelo, Pacifico, Sol and Tecate before I drink a Corona!  |  IP: Logged
