He could have really had some more fun with that I think. Inconspicuously placing it on a shelf and then it drops/shatters as the employees and a bunch of customers look on. The sound helps tell others that this is their territory or to tell opposite sex birds that they're on the prowl (and the metal sources relay this sound a lot better than when they do the same thing on a tree). Maybe something like a "Volume turner-downer". Get a volume complaint, put a ball in the mechanism. Ball doesn't reach the volume knob until the movie is already over and even then it turns it down from 7.2 to 7.1.
