    Help with Kinoton ST200E Platter

    HI
I have a problem in that when feeding out the slow speed is not working even though the red led lights and there is 5 volt back to the main board.
Every other part works fine and all the led's on the main board in the tower are working as they should. I've tried renewing a few components but there is no change.
I don't have a full schematic so I don't know what to try next.
As all heads and platters act the same it must be something on the main board.
I just wondered if anyone out there might know something I don't.

There is no such thing as a "slow speed" on a Kinoton E platter. There is the thread up mode where the platter starts/stops as the film is pulled. And there is the run mode. When running, the platter starts spinning before the film even starts pulling (it has to be, at least as large as the diameter of the center ring so why wait until the film is tugging?).

I suspect what you are missing is the motor run connection. On a Kinoton platter, you connect a relay to your film projector's motor (or create a like signal such that you get a contact closure whenever the projector motor is running...like you do for Dolby Digital in a changeover installation). That run signal (contact closure) tells the payout platter to start spinning. Then, the sensors merely tell the platter to speed up or slow down but there isn't a fixed speed called "slow." It is also smart enough that if you stop a show...for, say and intermission, When it starts up again, it will be at the same speed it was when it stopped.

The platter, typically, has a 5-pin DIN connector at the bottom of the column, near the feet.

If you have a Kinoton projector (any of them) they'll have the Run terminal for you. Terminals 1 and 2 are projector start.

The motor should not be “activated” when the feeding platter is too advanced. Instead, if the film is too far advanced, the motor should slow down. As Steve already mentioned, the motor should be running continuously while the projector is operating. The sensors should only signal it to speed up or slow down.

In threading mode, only the left (green) sensor is active, allowing the film to feed as you pull it through for threading.

Yes I'm going to double check the wiring from the projector to platter.
