Plenty of 16mm in schools here, at least through the 80's. There was a comedian who used to do a bit on Comedy Central about those ratty "educational films", he'd put his lips together and mimic the soundtrack as though he were blowing bubbles. Pretty funny (and true, probably at least one-quarter of the attempts at showing classroom films failed!). How come 16mm and 8mm for that matter were "autoload" but 35mm never was? How did it work?

I remember running the bell and howel projectors in junior high back in the late 70's. I can't remember the model but they were the ones that were blue green and you had to thread the whole thing, no autothread. I remember once we were having an assembly of some of our classes and I was in charge of the projectors. One of the machines I was using, I had to manually turn the take-up reel otherwise the film would run into the floor. That was my first experience with keeping the show on the screen.

Do moviegoers care;or better yet know.Years ago when I was working at the Merrimack Rark Drive In in Methuen Ma;the Managers wife;who ran the snack bar asked me if I could Rewind the tapes and start the show again!
