I can however tell you the first film on which I did a changeover, early in April 2004, on a pair of Century MSAs, at the Eveningstar Cinema, in Brunswick, Maine. It was also one the first polyester prints we received as well and the humidity (had no HVAC in the booth at the time) reeked havoc with it making the film layers stick together causing brain wraps galore. I also remember applying xecleen(?) by hand to the entire print. Eventually we had to replace the print. He showed me how to set up the carbons and hit the pedels. I then ran the next and then the rest of the changeovers for the double feature of Enter the Dragon & Cujo. First time alone was at a twin with a platter. I threaded the film backwards and shut it down right away (it was playing a local merchant ad) and re-threaded. It may have been Purple Rain or Scarface (gave up regular projectionist work around 1999). Some how I had been able to avoid making up a print on a platter until just last December, when I assisted with a Christmas party at a local theater.  |  IP: Logged Donald Brown Expert Film Handler Posts: 131 From: Lincoln, DE Registered: Sep 2009 posted 02-04-2010 11:56 AM                     I couldn't recall what the films were, but my first solo flight in the booth was at the Yarmouth Drive-In Theatre in West Yarmouth, MA, on a pair of Centurys with Strong Super 135 arc lamps. I vividly recall that the regular operator, for whom I was filling in, recommended opening the rear door of the lamp prior to striking the arc, to avoid splatter on the reflector! It was kinda a soft porn thing from the 70's - plenty of tops off. Would have to be rated NC-17 by todays standards.
