Posts: 12814 From: Annapolis, MD Registered: Dec 1999 posted 01-12-2003 08:42 PM                     The CIR bottom plate actually uses the screws that hold the die on so you won't find any holes to attach it. As to the various splicers...I've used CIR...I have no problem with them but very much prefer the M3 over the M2. The Neumade splicers (I thought they were made by Somar, Richard ) speak for themselves...they can make as good a splice as one could want from a tape splicer. But like any other precision instrument, they can be destroyed by the careless. The Strong splicers have thus far impressed me. I find it interesting that we have two reviews of the unit...one is an "F" and the other is an "A-". Opposite ends of the spectrum so clearly we have a range of opinions (imagine that ) Of the splicers I've seen and mentioned above...the Strongs get my vote for use with lesser operators. The Neumades for those that I would term professionals. Oh, and Joe, I prefer American cars. But it is marked ARRI on the top. It is our backup splicer and doesnt hardly ever get used. A Neumade 35ss is our standard splicer. Just from my observations the Neumade is much better built and makes better splices (I dont build-up or tear down films at the theatre). I stuck a few trailers together for test film for my home set up and used both splicers to see which one made better splices. The CIR lookalike just seems flimsy and loosely machined in comparison to the Neumade.  |  IP: Logged
