Author Topic: New Dolby Digital EX Trailer Christopher Seo Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 530 From: Los Angeles, CA Registered: Jun 99 posted 02-28-2003 01:44 AM                     Claude, I certainly loved running that Dolby Train trailer at the Waikiki. Whichever version it was, I thought it was great... very surreal. I'm betting it was the original one because the SRD installation in Waikiki #2 was quite old (Cat. 699, DA10). In fact it may even have been acetate.... Even though I should love the SDDS trailers for being filmed in my home state, I always thought they were kind of cheesy, especially "Volcano". The only one I really liked was the original SDDS tag.... As far as AMC, you'd think if they cut a deal to have SDDS-only installations they'd have cut a deal to get free SDDS tags too. I assume this new EX trailer will have the "EX flag" in the data which can automatically pulse certain CPs (650, 500?) into EX. I haven't seen this in operation, but I know that a couple of regular trailers ("Rain", and possibly "Aurora") have versions with the flag. Great graphics, combined with the sound being distinguishable from different channels, it's far better then TRAIN (v.2). That all said, my favourite of all time has to be BERTHA. I just love that bee. Brad (or anyone else!) : I believed that Dolby only gave away one trailer for new installs. I wish dolby would make a trailer featuring the sounds of nature. The last time I ever saw it was in 1998 (in front of "The Mask Of Zorro"), and cringe every time I hear the newer, weaker one. For now, however, I'm happy with the "Rain" trailer. Does anyone have any copies of that particular trailer? Posts: 10973 From: Lawton, OK, USA Registered: Apr 2001 posted 03-03-2003 01:20 AM                     THX has a nifty audio-only thing called "Jungle Sounds" (I think) and it gives a pretty good demonstration of nature stuff and other more wild sound effects in 5.1. I downloaded a .vob file of that (and most of the THX theatrical trailers, DD theatrical trailers and DTS trailers) from some French multimedia site. Its not up anymore though. If I had a DVD burner, I'd have a pretty exhaustive trailers disc. Dolby Labs already has a very good DD demo DVD. I paid $20 for mine ($15 price + $5 shipping). DTS has made a number of good demo DVDs as well. I just wonder when THX is going to get their act together and offer something similar. Starts at the back out of sight and flys to the front goes from side to side and waves at you ( with cute twinkley noise ). The bee flyes around for a bit and then reves up a bit and flys straight at the camera, bumps into the the lens, goes back , splutters and then drops off the screen. The trailer is SR only. The sound on the trailer is very good, it would be good if Dolby redid it in SR.D. It's a THX spot of about 30 seconds. A worker in blue overalls comes into screen infront of the big THX sign and holds up a kids toy. A little broad cylinder, and when turned upside down, it makes a big MOO noise.. he then grabs a electric plug from inside the side of the THX sign, and plugs it into the toy, then makes it MOO again. Not sure if the "Rain" mix was redone for EX. I think it's the same but with the addition of the flag. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any EX setup to test these out on.  |  IP: Logged
