Author Topic: New Dolby Digital EX Trailer Charles Everett Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1470 From: New Jersey Registered: May 2001 posted 03-16-2003 12:34 PM                     The Town Center Plaza (National Amusements) in East Windsor NJ ran the Dolby Digital EX snipe with Talk to Her yesterday. Unfortunately, Talk to Her was in a hall where the SRD was not working properly. I didn't expect to see old Dolby Digital trailers using the old "Dolby Stereo Digital" logo. But I agree with Brad that none of the three "Train" trailer versions offer the original and more powerful 5.1 mix. I don't hate the "long" trailer as much as some do, but it certainly doesn't have as much oomph to it as the original I heard at the GCC Northpark #1 and Cinemark Hollywood USA theaters (the first two theaters in Dallas to get Dolby Digital). The newer trailers (like "Waterfall", "Enlighten" and "Wizard") are kind of boring. "Waterfall" isn't even as dynamic as the DTS "Sonic Landscape" trailer, which already in and of itself is pretty tame. I hope whatever trailer(s) DTS is developing will be a lot more "in-your-face". That third DTS trailer at the French website, "DTS Experience" doesn't seem like an authentic DTS trailer. The wrong font is used (the DTS logo is comprised of type based on Dolmen, a font by Letraset/ITC). The Optima family is used for supplemental type. I'm not sure what font is used for the "ES" part in the DTS-ES logo. Anyway, that trailer is not a real DTS trailer.  |  IP: Logged Mike Olpin Chop Chop! THE EASY WAY - Mac OS X and a descent processor (g3 500 at bare minimum), g4 recomended. Download a program called VLC at videolan.org You can open any kind of DVD, satalite, or other rare digital streams with this. But don't expect great frame rates on a G3. HARD WAY, WITH DVD ERRORS POPING UP 3 SECONDS TO THE END OF THE CLIP, BUT FUN NONE THE LESS AND GIVES SLOWER MACHINES A CHANCE TO PLAY VOB. You can trick the DVD player on your mac to play most of the vob file. Make a folder on your hd called "VIDEO_TS". Insert a DVD video disc into the drive and open the disc in the finder. Open the DVDs "VIDEO_TS" and copy "VIDEO_TS.BUP" and "VIDEO_TS.IFO" to your fake "VIDEO_TS" folder on your HD. Put the VOB you want to open into your "VIDEO_TS" folder and rename it "VIDEO_TS.VOB". Now open the Apple DVD player, from the file menu choose "Open VIDEO_TS Folder" and choose the VIDEO_TS folder you just made. Only tested under MacOSX, probably works on nine too, but no guarrenties. Macs cannot burn DVDs so whatever you do don't demux the VOB file (with bbDEMUX ) and then import the .m1v and .ac3 files into DVD Studio Pro (this program does not exist) build a disc and burn the DVD with Toast (also nonexistent). Just got 2 new trailers from Dolby today. I forget the exact name, but it said EX in the title. Weird thing is, they came through fed ex. Anyhow, it also came with a paper stating to run it with the Matrix Reloaded. RATS! The print I built already has Dolby city on it. Is there an easy way to change this? I was in tonight to see the Matrix Reloaded with my friends at a sneak preview, so I didn't get a good look at the trailer. All i can say is i want more copies so i can run this trailer on EVERYTHING! It rocks! The trailer itself does not specify EX. Funny thing is we do not use Dolby digital at out theater. In the letter it said Our theater was specially chosen. My buddies all hated it, but it has grown on me. Only one time (possibly during the Matrix) someone did applaud. I'd much rather watch some other Dolby trailers, but it was nice to see something and show something that was new. By the way, how do you order more trailers from Dolby? I sent in a fax request and they faxed back a form for me to fill out. You can get a set of (Flat and Scope) trailers each year for each processor you have. They can also send you posters, too. The form they faxed to me asked for Dolby model numbers and serial numbers for each screen. I'd rather see and listen to something cool. Instead we get a trailer showing off a bunch of homeless people who are so poor that they have to resort to using trash cans as footwear because they can not afford shoes. I also don't really understand how homeless people really fit in with Dolby Digital. Maybe the founder of Dolby used to be a homless man before inventing noise reduction?  |  IP: Logged Dan Harris Film Handler Posts: 86 From: Bristol, UK Registered: Jun 2003 posted 09-25-2003 06:00 PM                     We've finally got the Stomp trailer (it's called 'Perspectives' over here) last week, and I think it's great, fresh new idea. It's had a good response from audiences as weel, playing before both Underworld and The Italian Job. Cinemas in the UK can get occasional replacements from Dolby free of charge, in either flat or scope, by faxing your details (include the model and serial number of your processor/s) to the Marketing department at Wootton Bassett. Failing that they are available for about £20 from Jack Roe. Mind you, Dolby have been happy to send me replacement trailers regularly, as we still have a prototype CP-650 on site.  |  IP: Logged
