When you get into a discussion with people you don't know about the sound of reel-end-alarms, the pitch they make and the quantity of "dings" "thwacks "thunks" or "rings"...not to mention the "plink, plank, crack roll....roll....roll....fwap" that they make.

Yep. That's what I've heard. However, I've never met a projectionist that has been able to get away with splicing single frames of pornography into family films.

I know I did.

From Casablanca. "I was misinformed."

...when you make an effort to go out to see a good movie- the dinner suit, champagne and cigarette on a stick kind of thing- and you walk into the auditorium with your date and look up casually to the projection ports and you see ... a digital projector...

... and you cry.

When you see the film jumping in the gate & your hands leap out of their own accord, trying to close it. (This happened to me once in a theatre. I hit an sudience member in front of me in the head)

the perfect time (at the start of the first words in the credits)
That's wrong. You don't want the lights coming up the second the credits hit the screen. You want to give it a few seconds for the audience to realize the movies is over and get "mentally" ready to go back into the real world -- not "jar" them into reality.

(You know you're a projectionist when you're anal about when the lights come up at the end of a movie)

You have you living room lights on a dowser so you can lower them half way for all of the crap at the beginning of the DVD and all the way for the Feature. Extra points if you have aisle lights in your living room.

Commentary tracks are NEVER treated as part of the movie

All of the above plus:

>You have a can of Simplex oil sitting
somewhere around the house.

>You've used an old arc carbon stub
as a pencil.

>You've wrapped at least one gift
using colored leader film as a ribbon.

>You use those little plastic trailer
cores as napkin rings.

>You've contemplated motorizing all
the curtains on your windows at home.

.....when you go to Applebees' restaurant, you know the one with Hollywood stuff hanging on the wall, and ask to be seated next to the Goldberg reel.

The smell of no film guard makes you depressed

You think Christie Simplex would be an awesome name

You watch a movie thats been out a few years and instantly remember building that title
