The software can not make a dcp so that you can decode it in dolby SR (I hope I read the question correctly).

If you want more channels you need to provide the different audio files.
When using stereo audio files you place the stereo L+R file in the first line.
If you want a 5.1 sound for your DCP you may need to use 6 mono audio files.
1 for left, 1 for right, 1 for center, 1 for subwoofer (lfe), 1 for left surround (left SR) and 1 for right surround (right SR).

If you want to contact the creator of the software post your question in this forum. (you can post in english)

In my opinion: If you only have a stereo audio source don't try to decode it to 5.1 keep it in simple stereo.

Thanks for the reply! This has inspired me to create a 5.1 mix for my project... just finishing it up now. [Big Grin]

Although I don't do many policy trailers anymore, I get inquiries about our old trailers in DCP form. I've been trying out the DCPC software and think I'm on the right track, but unfortunately, I don't have access to a theatre to try them out.

I've uploaded 3 trailers to the following site - http://www.preshowproductions.com/DCPtrials.htm If any of you would care to download them and try them out, I would like to get feedback as to whether they load ok onto your system, picture ok?, sound quality and levels ok? You can either reply here or email me at doug@preshowproductions.com with comments. I appreciate your help and, of course, if the trailers are useful to you, you are welcome to use them gratis.

Doug - I just tried to grab your files and the links do not work. Would like to try them out for sure though.

EDIT: OK, Downloading now!

Sorry Mike - changed a few things and forgot to update the page with the different titles. Please try it now and let me know if they work for you. Thanks!

Doug, picture quality and audio levels seems good.
All three DCP's play fine here (on a Doremi DCP2000).

I noticed two of the DCP's has stereo and the last has 4-channel audio (though I could only hear left, right, center being used).
Good work [beer]

One thing Doug - The file names don't appear to comply with the DC naming spec. In our server, they show up in the "features" directory where they should be in the Policy directory. I suppose there is probably a way to go in and rename them manually but as long as I know where they are, it's not necessary for me but it would be nice to have them go where they're supposed to.

Mike is right. It would be best to have the DCPs 'kind' tagged as 'Policy Trailer' and have the Annotation and Content Title match after the DC specs.
I'd recommend using the title generator in OpenDCP's GUI version (Win or OSX only). It's dead easy and it takes a jiffy to make correct titles.
Then just copy/paste that into DCPC.

Great - thanks for the tips, guys! I'm in the process of converting all our old policy trailers over to DCP (and updating a few of them), since I believe there are enough installs in the indie circuit now to make it worthwhile. Since I don't have a theatre handy to check them out in, just want to make sure I'm delivering a good product. I appreciate the help and support from you guys that know a lot more about digital than this old film guy!

I was a little off in my comment above --- the clips don't go to the features directory, they actually go to the "trailers" directory. Better, but still a little off! [Smile]

Bump.

Has anyone come up with a repeatable procedure for ripping a DVD and converting it to a DCP? This requires reverse pulldown and deinterlacing of the video, separating out the soundtrack and converting to 48k 24-bit wav files, stretching out the sound from 23.976 to 24fps speed, converting the video stream to tiff images, and making the DCP.

From what I can tell, this can all be done with mencoder, libcss, sox, ffmpeg, imagemagick, and opendcp. Before I re-invent the wheel, though, I want to see if anyone else has already done this. I have had good luck with using opendcp and the imagemagick tools to make my own snipes and logos, but the dvd project is a bit more involved.

(I am not trying to pirate anything...this would be for legitimate bookings for which no 35mm print, Blu-Ray, or DCP is available. We all know that DVD is unreliable as an exhibition format, and that a DCP would be far preferable.)

You can rip a DVD to a VOB or ISO image and play it with any decent media player like WD TV etc., incl. decent upscaling to 1080p

I really wouldn't go into the hassle of regular DVD conversions, there are just too many single operations and optimizations to be done on the way to make it a nice experience. Probably the best way to go would be to set up a commandline/batch pipeline with the necessary tools and parameters and then let your machine run over a few days. And then you will still end up with broken streams, images, out-of-sync audio, etc. every few conversions.

Robby:
If you already know how to work with virtual stereoscopic cameras and whatnot in your preferred 3D suite, you just render a sequence for the LEFT and one for the RIGHT eye/camera.
Then feed that to OpenDCP... and you have your 3D DCP.
I created my first tiny 3D DCP the other day by following this brilliant tutorial which centers on Blender, a free open source content creation suite.

Scott: I've only played with conversion of PAL DVD's (25fps).
That was pretty straight forward as you only have to deinterlace and resize the video. No pulldown or audio timestretching needed.
NTSC is a whole other matter though.
I would rip the DVD to VOB/ISO and run it from a PC if I had a NTSC disc.
