A huge boring machine used to build the Channel Tunnel that links the south of England and France has been sold by online auction site eBay. The 580-ton drill went for £39,999 to a bidder using the name steddenm. The price does not include delivery.

The auction started on 2 April but faced problems last week as it was peppered with hoax bids of up to £10m. By Sunday, eBay said it had removed or cancelled all but 59 offers and had put a vetting process in place.

The auction closed on Monday at 1715 BST with a total number of 65 bids. Money raised from the sale is to be shared between three charities chosen by staff from Eurotunnel, the company that operates the underground rail link. The charities are Macmillan Nurses, Demelza House Hospice and Pilgrim's Hospice.

According to the eBay listing, the drill "removed a half million cubic meters of chalk and soil in creating the Eurotunnel route" and is "a prized relic from the greatest construction achievement of the 20th century". The write-up suggests it would be of interest to science museums or "technical enthusiasts around the world".

Buyers need to be pretty sure of what they are purchasing, however, because Eurotunnel states that returns are not accepted.

Well, when PS2s were still in short supply, someone sold an empty box for around $300. The person who bought it assumed there was a system inside.
I've been watching EPay lately for CED videodiscs to complete my collection (averaging $5 per disc), and there's been someone trying to sell a Peter Allen and the Rockettes disc with $20 minimum bid, or $40 Buy It Now. It's been up about 4 times now and had no takers. Wonder what makes him think it's worth that much? I've had that title a long time but haven't gotten around to watching it.

Actually the original system boxes have been selling rather well on Ebay as a not too well know fact is that many companies will not honor their warrenty (especially for a replacement) if you do not send the system back in it's original packaging. So I hope Tom for your sake, you wont need any repair work done in the future.

PS2 is a wimpy game system. Jaggy graphics, no in-game Dolby Digital, lame controller, slow, looooooong loading times. teh suxXorz.

Yeah, the Colecovision has much better games (though it sucks having only an RF output.) I actually bought my PS2 mainly for the Namco Museum, and as a backup DVD player as my good one was in the shop at the time I bought it. I just can't get into the newer games.

Theres a guy on ebay trying to sell a "Star Wars" trailer. The bidding starts at $1,500 , or if you must have it now. You can buy it now for $3,000. Plus $25.00 shipping.

Checking out the completed items for Episode 1 trailers, I see one sold for $10.49 and another sold for $33.89.

I wonder what someone would pay for my 70mm original RETURN OF THE JEDI trailer.

I don't have any of the first Episode I trailer since Fox sent death threats along with them saying that they all MUST be returned! Did anyone get busted for not sending them back?

Jesse, I just got out of 2 years in prison and am now on parole for 5 years for keeping my Episode I trailer.

I will NEVER tell them where I keep my my secret trailer stash! They can rot in hell!
