quote:
"If you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw, and my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake, I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!"
I've seen this quote getting lots of press lately. The problem with it, in my opinion, is that like most of the quotes listed here, they must be in the context of the movie to work. Taken out of context, this quote, like most of these others, make no sense at all. I thought a far better quote from There Will Be Blood was:

"There are times when I look at people and I see nothing worth liking."

In the movie, its a great summary of the character's selfishness. Out of the movie, it still is very powerful. That's just what I think makes a great quote.

Since someone just broke the chain again, and someone else quoted Prof. Higgins a few pages back, and since I'm a shameless, opportunistic bastard...

"It's to wipe your eyes, it's to wipe any part of your face that feels moist. And remember that's your handkerchief and that's your sleeve, and don't confuse the one with the other."

"Eliza, you are to stay here for the next six months learning to speak beautifully, like a lady in a florist's shop. If you are good and do whatever you are told, you shall sleep in a proper bedroom, have lots to eat, and be given money to buy chocolates and take rides in taxis. But if you are naughty and idle, you shall sleep in the back kitchen amongst the black beetles, and be walloped by Mrs. Pearce with a broomstick. At the end of six months you will be taken to an embassy ball in a carriage, beautifully dressed. If the king finds out you are not a lady, you will be taken to the Tower of London, where your head will be cut off as a warning to other presumptuous flower girls! If you are not found out, you shall be given a present of... uh... seven and six to start life with in a lady's shop. If you refuse this offer, you will be the most ungrateful, wicked girl, and the angels will weep for you."

"I can see her now, "Mrs. Freddy Einsford-Hill," in a wretched little flat above a store. I can see her now! Not a penny in the till, and a bill-collector beating at the door! She'll try to teach the things I taught her... and end up selling flowers instead! Begging for her bread and water! While her husband has his breakfast in bed! In a year or so, when she's prematurely gray, and the blossom in her cheek has turned to chalk, she'll come home, and lo! He'll have upped and run away with a social climbing heiress from New York! Poor Eliza! How simply frightful! How humiliating! How delightful! How poignant it will be on that inevitable night, when she hammers on my door in tears and rags! Miserable and lonely, repentant and contrite! Shall I take her in, or hurl her to the wolves? Give her kindness, or the treatment she deserves? Will I take her back, or THROW THE BAGGAGE OUT? Well, I'm a most forgiving man. The sort who never could, ever would, take a position and staunchly never budge. A *most* forgiving man... But, I shall NEVER take her back! If she were crawling on her KNEES! Let her promise to atone, let her shiver, let her moan, I'll slam the door and let the hellcat FREEZE! Marry Freddy! HA!"

...I could go on. The man never really opens his mouth without saying something worth listening to.

Wow, a couple of mis-quotes here... Let's see if I can fix any of them...

quote: Robert W. Jones
"I see stars"
If this is a 2001 reference, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's "My God. It's full of stars."

quote: Robert W. Jones
"The best part of you ran down your Mama's leg"
"The best part of you ran down the crack of your mama's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress. I think you've been cheated!"

quote:
"To the Universe! And beyond!"
Buzz Lightyear? If so, it's "To INFINITY and beyond!"

quote: Robert W. Jones
"Yippie Aye A"
I believe it's spelled: "Yippie Kay-yay."

quote: Robert W. Jones
"You chose poorly"
Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade? "HE chose... poorly."

quote: Robert W. Jones
"We called the dog 'Indy'"
"We named the dog Indiana."

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those.

"Kay-yay?" That would not pronounce correctly. I don't know the official spelling (if there is one) but it would be "ki-yay" or "ky-yay" or something like that. Aside from that, the quote isn't complete without the "mothafucka!" at the end.

Mark,

Some of that was paraphrasing. Just had a"film quote moment" and the fingers did the walking.

quote: Mark J. Marshall
"My God. It's full of stars."

2010

"Viddy well O' my brother, viddy well..."

Yippie kai aye mofo! [Smile]
(phonetically)

"I was cured alright!"

This is a really fun thread. Need more Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein stuff.

"What Knockers"!

Late now, but be "Mr. Beekeeper's Fixer Upper" keeping me awake.

Rob

I have a copy of the "Die Hard" shooting script (second revised draft; Oct. 2, 1987). Let's see how writers Jeb Stuart & Steven E. DeSouza spell it. (I'm not sure if the line appears in Roderick Thorp's novel on which the film was based.)

Scene 170, page 54-B:

HANS (harsh): Do you really think you have a chance against us, Mr. Cowboy?

McCLANE: (long pause): Yipee-yi-yea...mother-fucker.
