I think there is a danger in outlawing the use of certain words. Are we supposed to just forget that slavery ever existed?

The relationship of master/slave electronics components is such that it makes sense to refer to them with those words.

I have a sinking feeling that this movement will succeed. Slavery is such a "touchy" subject. I don't think any computer manufacturer really wants to fight for the right to keep using master-and-slave terminology.

Political Correctness really sucks (sometimes).

If we may consider this thread to be about political correctness gone amuck in general I'd like to point out that the University of Chicago is looking into adding a third category of restroom besides male and female for those who don't wish to be stigmatized with either label. I s___ you not.

I think it would be very un-PC to have a PC forum unless you also had Mac and Linux forums. Or would that be fora?

He is 100% correct!

I saw an article in an industry trade mag somewhere that Maryland was going to outlaw all references to the colors used in the RIAA chart. All vendors will no longer be able to label or use the wire colors Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, or White.

There is also a move afoot to not allow the color-coding of resistors... all values will have to be printed on all parts from now on...

but that would further stratify society. can you say "separate but equal"? why not just have one category of restroom for everybody? seriously, i can't think of a good reason not to. that's how my dorm was when i was in college.

Outlaw "master" and "slave" terminology? Guess I'll have to scratch off the words Master and Slave off the Ballantyne VIP pedestals that were used in all the Tom Moyer theaters here in the Pacific Northwest. [Wink]

That will probably go nowhere, as many (and more) areas have "potty parity" laws requiring new construction to have more toilets in the women's restrooms. Without the gender designation of the restrooms, it would not be possible to apportion the porcelain accordingly.

Maybe the guy who filed the complaint thought that the terms "master" and "slave" refer to the type of person for whom the hard drives are intended. Like, the really good ones can only be bought by masters and the slaves have to make do with the not-so-nice drives.

What about that new Russell Crowe movie? Doesn't it have "Master" in it?
I like Adam's response the best!

I don't know, Joe. Somehow, " Dominatrix and the Strap-Ons doesn't draw quite the same mental image... [Razz]

Regarding plumbing "couplings"...
I suppose the concept of male and female here will need to be switched to + and - too, eh?

Hi, Mr. Tru-Value Man. I need a positive-threaded 1 3/4" fitting to insert (oops, I can't say that, can I?) into my negative-oriented drain hole (ummm... can I say "hole"?)... orofice? ummm.... apparently recepticle-looking thingie (can't say "thingie")... I'm sooooooo confused!
