I am too lazy to respond, but I'm sure that it is possible for some individual to interpret it as racist or offensive. It would be best to change the state name, just in case.

US Route 666 is renamed

A road in the US which shares its number with "The number of The Beast" is to be renamed.

US Route 666, which runs through New Mexico, Colorado and Utah, is to be known as Route 491 from the end of the month.

At a ceremony in the reservation town of Shiprock on July 30, the highway will be rededicated.

As part of the renaming event, residents will be offered mutton and bread and Navajo medicine men will chant traditional incantations, says the Los Angeles Times.

"They'll bless the new highway," said SU Mahesh, a spokesman for New Mexico's highway department. "And they'll cleanse the old one."

Highway officials named it Route 666 in 1926 to indicate it was the sixth spur off Route 66, the get-your-kicks highway later immortalised by Nat King Cole.

Colorado to be renamed Nueterville.

In Britain, the road designated as the A666 was originally the road which ran round the cost of the Isle of Barra, one of the Western Isles of Scotland with only a couple of thousand inhabitants or so (it was where Whisky Galore was filmed). The ironic thing is that this place is staunchly Catholic, with something like 90% of the island's population being regular churchgoers! About 20 years ago they renamed it the A888, a feat which had taken several decades of fighting government bureaucracy to accomplish.

I want some damn reparations from the Roman empire, for the way they treated early Christians, from the Catholic church, for the way they treated early protestants, and because I'm distantly related to Joan of Arc (you cannot imagine how painful that was for my distant ancestors), from the government of Egypt, because some other ancestors of mine were once slaves there.

Okay, seriously.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there's a part of the Constitution about how if your Father commits a crime, you can't be punished simply because you are his son, something to that effect.

(Anyone who actually believes that African-Americans deserve reparations probably can't spell reparations)

Oh God. All these "Numerophobes" afraid of a few 6's. If Satan really cared about that number, don't you think he would do more to see it remains prevelant? Or at least make it dark and windy (like Gandalf) when it comes up.

Just like 13. Get a grip people! [Smile]

Ditto Thomas,

I remeber about 10 years ago a Midwest christian Cult group persuaded Union Pacific to renumber one of it's GP40's that was carrying #666 to something else do to the Satanic refrences of the number in the bible. Up until the number change the locomotive never had been invovled in an accident. Shortly after the number changed it was involved in a fatality accident in South Texas. It was involved in a total of 4 accidnets from the time it was renumbered in 1993 or 1994, until it was destoryed in yet another accident on the UP in 1996 or 7 again involving fatalities. Now figure this particular piece of equipment was built in 1966 and survived all the way until 1993 before it had any kind of blimish in it's history other than it wore #666 for a period of time, then after loosing that number due to presure by a religous group, it turned into the killing occultic machine that everyone feared when it was number 666. Go Figure. And Just to note 666 was not the units original number ethier. It started life as a Milwaukee Road unit, but the number escapes me at the moment. But it wore 666 for some 8 years before anyone noticed it. Now back to the Topic of Master and Slave. In a computer since, this is a politically correct term. As the drive in IDE chain 0 (1) has control over the P/C in theory (i.e. has the operating system on it. What does this guy wanna change the naming to Dominant and Submissive? Give Me A Fucking Break. As an American we all have a constitional right to be offended. That's just life.

I don't like the number 473,682. It gives me the creeps!

However, 1469 is cool....

"You need wisdom to understand the number of the beast! But if you are smart enough, you can figure it out. Its number is six hundred sixty-six and it stands for a person". Revelation 13:18 CEV.

It's not the number but what the number stands for that concerns some Christians. While I believe some take it to far I also believe we have better things to do than belittle someone's belief. It not only makes us look very unprofessional but childish. This is too classy a site to let this thread degenerate into that sort of thing. Whadaya say we get back on topic?

It is basically simply a choice you can make in which age you want to live. If you want to be superstituous, mentally exist in the middle ages and project your fears on numbers, OK. If you want to be a civilized enlightened person, you can find better ways to spend your time and actually address some real problems.

I like 1337 for obvious reasons... All computer nerds know why, an to go on topic it might actually be a good thing sometimes to get foreign terms for such things.
In Sweden, at least to people I talk to (I admit, not all of Sweden) is called "Master" and "Slave" i.e. the English words, so we don't have to imagine any dominatrix unless we want to... It's just a name for what's the difference between what they do, kind of like server and client, or some other relevant example...

Gee, it's good to be posting again, maybe should do it more often. It's amazing how fast you go from active to lurker, but it must be possible to make a comeback, and I'm going to be living proof...

ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SEVEN is a lame number for wannabe cool people. Usually fans of this number have rarely, if ever, talked with females or been outside.

Having read through (or skimmed over) the variety of posts in this thread - two phrases pop into my mind.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."
<<Some people really need to get a grip!>>

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me!" [Big Grin]
<<Half expecting a 'hubba hubba' from Phil!>> [Wink]
