I had a lot of those growing up, mostly the Terrytoon titles in Standard 8mm (didn't get Super 8 until I was 13 or 14). I remember mowing yards, just so I could earn enough money to buy a cartoon. I rarely bought the full (200ft.) versions because they cost something like $12-$16, when I could get condensations (50ft. reel) for $5 or $6 each. At 18fps, they'd run about 3 minutes. A friend of mine had the Super 8 sound version of "Star Wars" when we were 16. A 400ft. reel... huge for a home movie projector! That Ken Films release was only 17 minutes long, pan and scan 4:3 ratio and mono sound. It only condensed the first 90 minutes of the movie. My mom probably sold it in the yard sale with all of our other stuff when me and my sisters moved out. My dad was the plant manager at Aladdin Industries back in the 70's and we took a new embossed metal lunchbox to school almost every week. Mom sold those too in the yard sale for a quarter a piece. They now go for hundreds of dollars to collectors.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. I even lugged my Super 8mm projector into elementary school to show them to the class. (Check out the humongous antenna array.) "The Russian Woodpecker was a notorious Soviet signal that could be heard on the shortwave radio bands worldwide between July 1976 and December 1989. It sounded like a sharp, repetitive tapping noise, at 10 Hz, giving rise to the "Woodpecker" name. The random frequency disrupted legitimate broadcast, Amateur Radio, and utility transmissions and resulted in thousands of complaints by many countries worldwide." The website also reveals the signal was part of an early missile-warning system.
