What's a perfectly good Neumade splicer doing sitting there? Actually the xenon lamphouse table is worth more than the entire mechanism is. I never did hear if the original DP-70s from booth 1 were moved upstairs or if the booth had been "Stronged" . Isn't that a 70mm Neumade splicer? They should clean that machine up and put an Ashcraft, Strong, or Peerless arc lamphouse on it Looks like they're both 35mm - being the Guillotine on the left and the Neumade 35SS on the right. the upper plate is too narrow for 70mm. ..or placed a good ol' Strong Futura II, or Peerless Hycandescent lamphouses on that pedestal - being the kind of lamphouse to handle the wide light beam that 70mm film needs (and a beam spreader) and the long throw and big screen that the main auditorium has. Radio City Music Hall had Hycandescents behind their "XL 35/70" machines until the condensers lenses broke and no more lenses were to be had. Kind of a shame for MANN to have a display in public view in presenting a machine that is in such unpresentable condition as such (send Mark G. over there and he'll rebuild that one). I stayed there last night while doing the archive print projection for an academic film conference at the University of Sheffield. Call me a paranoid wuss if you like, but I removed the fuse from the connection unit during the night I stayed in that room! Thankfully this weekend was one of the hottest in Britain so far this year, so I didn't need to use the electric radiator. But the sight of that didn't exactly inspire confidence.
