I would taske them any day over Krispy Kreme's. Dunkin donuts uses enriched wheat flour, as will most donut shops/chains. The Krispy Kreme business in the U.S. is in pretty bad shape....the stock has been down for quite some time for a number of reasons, including the trend towards low-carb diets, over-expansion of the chain and the fact that many of the stores are mini-stores and don't actually make the donuts on site. There was a Krispy Kreme in our local UA Theater building, but it quickly went out of business. (Although so did a bakery, dog store and pizza place in the same location.) Like most chain food, Krispy Kreme actually sucks, although I'll admit that they are better than Dunkin' Donuts. The best donuts in New York City are made by a place called the Donut Plant, which is on Grand Street in the Lower East Side, a few doors down from Kossar's, which is the most famous bialy bakery in the world. They make amazing donuts from high-quality and all natural ingredients like Valohnra chocolate and real Vanilla-Bean. The donuts are made in small batches, hand-rolled, hand-cut and fried in Canola oil. They open at 7am and close when they run out of donuts. Some days that's pretty early. When you taste their donuts, you think, "oh...so this is what real chocolate (or vanilla, or whatever) is SUPPOSED to taste like." Traffic was backed up for miles 24/7 on opening week. A second store opened a year later in Milford and it created a traffic nightmare on US-1. Now guess what? Never cared much for them. I usually get donuts at a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins combo that's on Main Street right next to the college bookstore. Which means that if it's 3:27 AM on a weekend and I wake up with a monster craving for a Boston Cream donut and a 20 oz. Imagine 10,000+ people all turning up at some vacant block hungry for free donuts only to be disappointed? I checked back at the email again. It asked me to send the email to... "Tell your friends, tell your family that the place to be is QV, but be quick...the question remains how long does it take to eat 10,000 doughnuts? Come along and find out." It struck me that this is exactly what chain emails do. They get you worked up and then ask you to redistribute the email or the news to everyone you know. I immediately rang Krispy Kreme who assured me that the email had been genuine so on Thursday when I go into Melbourne I'll get my 10,000 free donuts!
