I tried a box of them when in Sydney a few months ago (they already have several stores). I really enjoyed the original glazed, hot; they melt in your mouth. My favourite doughnut? Well ours at the Lunar Drive-in are almost the best (we sell several hundred at busy intervals) and I do like Dunkin, but nothing tastes as good as the old Downeyflake Donuts they used to have back in the 1970's. They were like KK as you could watch the production from the giant windows. (The glazed ones.) Otherwise, they are just a donut. Hype?... Probably. But they are the only place that makes donuts my wife can eat. She's hypoglycemic. If she gets too much sugar in her system she gets sick. (It's not diabetes. It's an entirely different thing.) Krispy Kreme donuts don't have a lot of sugar in them IF you get them before they go through the glazer. (That shower of liquid sugar.) We can go to KK and ask them to take some donuts off the line before they hit the glazer so my wife can eat them. They wouldn't be sweet at all if it wasn't for the sugar shower. So, we go to KK when my wife wants a treat. Otherwise, I go to one of two local shops. Ptooey. I don't understand folks who buy or continue eating them. QV Square Melbourne Event: Giving away of 10,000 free Krispy Kreme Donuts This event was organised to promote the first Melbourne KK store which will be opening at Fountain Gate in June. The lines were long and fast becoming longer as hundreds of University students arrived. After a long wait they started giving out a classic glazed KK donut to everyone. A few people got T-shirts as well. The funniest bit was looking down at the line when I first arrived and seeing two police officers dressed in Blue standing in line. They stuck out like sore thumbs. The donuts were not fresh but arrived in boxes. The verdict after eating my first KK donut: Dough is ok, maybe a little fatty. Icing is ok but overall donut has too much glaze/icing relative to the amount of dough. It is like eating a donut that someone has added too much icing to. Maybe a fresh donut would taste better - I don't know. But hey I'm not complaining - a free donut is a free donut is a free donut. I think that the donuts are probably too sweet for Australian tastes. I only eat these when there not a real donut shop around... For real Donuts, come to the Houston Texas area & get a Shipley Donut...you'll never eat a Krispy Kreme again.... My birthday is coming up next week. I looked in the mailbox today to find an envelope with a card inside. On one side it says "Happy Birthday". On the other side it says... Happy Birthday! The only problem at the moment is that my nearest store is in Sydney and I am in Melbourne. Hundreds of peopeles waiting in line. Police directing traffic and warning of the 3-4 hour queue if they go through the drive-through. Wow. He always smelled like doughnuts. I've never eaten there. I'm a doughnut nut, I'm a doughnut nut. I go nuts for Krispy Kreme! --This is some of the local TV ad lyrics that are being plastered allover local TV. They sound like they were recorded with a portable reel to reel, not that there's anything wrong with that! If not mistaken, KK's home base is Hickory, NC, less than 100 miles from me.
