Progress...

Today, I'm just under 50lbs. (net) lighter than I was when I started this at the end of May (check out the calves!). Certainly, I've lost more than that in fat, but since I've also been putting on muscle (which weighs more than fat), you can't really use the scales as a measure of progress. The best gauge is how clothes fit. I'm now in 2x shirts, down from 4X, and the pants I used to struggle to get on, now will fall to my feet if I don't fasten my belt tightly. [Wink] I also don't snore anymore, and I can sleep lying on my back again.

 -

My arms are getting big...

 -

I'm working on the biceps peak, but what's not clear in the pix is the muscle is really coming outward towards the camera. It's pretty cool, I can't believe it. My triceps are also starting to show definition, my forearms are getting muscular, and my chest is expanding.

Make no mistake about it, I remain realistic. I'm still a fatty, my muscles are being concealed by that layer of fat, and I've got a long way to go yet... but I *am* making progress. My goal is to lose another 50-100 lbs. overall

I'm still not far enough along to be comfortable showing my before/after semi-nude front and profile views, but there IS a noticeable change between shots taken a couple of days ago and the ones I took back in May. When I'm "there", I'll cut the shots together into a "morph" effect.

Now that I'm going to the gym regularly and I'm no longer on the truck, my progress should increase substantially. The future looks promising. [Smile]

Tim - Good progress! You are right to not over-value weight; focus on inches. Did you measure all over in May? It's not nearly as fun saying you lost 7 inches instead of 60 pounds, but people who really know will appreciate it.

It's weird how working out can kind of be like flossing. Once you've done it for awhile, you don't like to miss, but at first it makes you bleed. What kind of adjustable dumbells are those?

Looks good, Tim!

I know the BB mags tell you all the tricks and to do concentration curls to get a bicep peak, but the bottom line is that genetics is the #1 factor. The best thing to do is to work out your brachialis muscle. Add a couple sets of incline hammer curls to your arm routine. Don't forget that triceps are what make big arms, biceps just look good.

Given the recent events in my life I have not been focusing on working out. I have only been to the gym to workout twice since sept 1st. I have not had my normal appetite and have lost about 15 pounds. 15lbs in one month is not healthy, at all.

I need to hurry up and get back on it so I am not out of shape for my scuba trip next month. I like being the last one to run out of air.

Thanks, Chad! No, that's the one thing I didn't do that I should have - take my measurements. [Frown]

My brother gave me a lot of nice equipment. Those are Power Blocks.

I appreciate that, Chris! [thumbsup] I'm really blasting my tri's hard. Hit 'em really good today. I'm also suppenating on concentration curls towards my delts and you can really feel that in the top of the biceps. I'm holding at the top and squeezing the heck out of it.

Hope you can get back into the swing of things soon, you're good at this. But I know motivation can be tough sometimes, especially as life throws its curve balls. Take good care.

Nice job Tim! I've got to get back to weights myself... been doing too much cardio. But it's all good, I'm keeping my weight off.

Aight, I'll throw it out there since Tim did.

 -

Not a lot of definition as I generally stay around 20% bodyfat. I'm probably at about 25% right now....

I did go back to the gym today and I certainly got weak during my recess. In August, I was doing barbel curls, sets of ten, with a 115-125lb bar. I was struggling to get sets of 10 done with a 70lb bar.

Tim, I remembered something that I used to do way back in the day that seems to work well. When doing alternating curls, make the top of the curl the rest position. Most people do them where they start with the dumbell hanging, bring it up, back down and then count. Try starting the rep from the top, lowering it, raising it and then counting. Hold that arm at the top in a contracted position as you do a rep with the other arm. This will not allow any rest time for your arms versus the normal way which lets each arm rest for a full rep. Remember, you want to recruit as many muscle fibers with the fewest possible reps.

Woah, you've got definition there, Chris! Very good work. [thumbsup] Glad to hear you're back at the gym, that's wonderful. Keep it going, bro!

And thanks for the tip, I'll try that. [Cool]

*bump*

Well, what a change, reading about myself a few posts up from 2 years ago and knowing how I am today!

How depressing.

I was doing Ultimate Frisbee with my group of friends but its been freezing when we do it at night. Nice cardio out of it though.

Currently getting into tennis, definitely working the brachioradialis.

About a month ago we put on a football game at our theatre. I thought I was going to die! I was fighting to keep my breath and keep up with all the "kids" I'm only 25 lol [Razz] I weigh 225 and I just don't like the way I look in the mirror any more. I've made it my sol mission to drop 30lbs and get back into my Army size. I will keep everyone up to date on what happens and my progress.

I'm just trying to keep things around the 180-185 I've been at forever. Sure, wouldn't mind being back at 160-170, but I think 6'1" 185 is proportionate.

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Start with 20-minutes of cardio each day and then alternate days between lower body and upper body then finish with a small ab workout each time. I feel like it's accomplishing what I set out to, I'm gradually able to lift heavier weight and I'm sticking around 180-185.

I do still feel rediculous walking up to a machine that some ripped dude just walked away from and finding I have to drop the weight 50-60 lbs. But I do 4 sets of 12 of everything I do, gradually increasing the weight 5-10lbs each set. Are these guys doing 10 reps at max weight to look all ripped??? WTF? I don't like the idea of going to the gym and doing only 6-10 reps, it just doesn't seem productive. But does it work???
