I want to go to China, but it can be expensive. I met somebody who was doing cheap trips, but they were mainly for looking at steam trains; he did some 'family' trips as well, but two years ago he was fully booked, and stopped doing it when steam finished on the main line. I know somebody who's been there several times on business; he says everythings changing so quickly.
The big barrier as far as I am concerned is the language! The other problem is that my health is deteriorating, and I don't know if I could manage a 12 hour flight now; 7 hours to Newark is bad enough, I could hardly walk, or even stand, for long for the first day when I last came over, in May.
As for the subject of this thread, I can't bear anybody touching me, so I certainly wouldn't want to go to a massage parlor! I can't find a graemlin for <shudder>.
How long are you there for this time?

China a hot spot for lusty lady tourists
As the majority of China's 2006 college graduates face unemployment, many can take comfort in knowing their country is home to a budding sex tourism trade.
A new report by China's National Development and Reform Commission says 60% of graduates this year will be unable to find work.
While the number of college graduates has jumped by 22% to 4.13 million this year, the number of jobs created has fallen by the same percentage, to 1.66 million.
Some simple arithmetic says roughly 2.5 million of China's newest college graduates are facing unemployment this year.
But there is good news, at least for the men in the Class of 2006: sex tourism is booming in mainland China. Wealthy women from Hong Kong or Taiwan are creating a heavy demand for yazi -- or "ducks," male prostitutes -- in Beijing.
Xu Wen is a pimp with a stable of young studs walking the streets of the nation's capital. He says being a gigolo isn't as glamorous and exciting as it sounds.
"When they [ducks] get to have sex with a beautiful girl, they are excited,' says Xu. 'But often it's old and unattractive women, which they find pretty disgusting."
Xiao Yu says working the blue-hair circuit isn't so awful.
'It's not that bad. It's just a job,' Xiao says.
Luckily, it's not just older women who are causing a spike in business. Many women in their twenties are looking for sex.
Jenny, 26, and her friends like to cruise the bars singing, drinking and throwing and dice. Sometimes it's nice having a man around.
"My friends have white-collar jobs, except for one who's a housewife. She's bored of sex with her husband, so she spends his money sleeping with yazi. It's very normal. It's not cheating, because it has nothing to do with love; I can easily separate sex and love. I just do it for the sex."
While the money is good -- most ducks earn seven times as much as the average worker -- Xiao may be in for a rude awakening.
"I do it to pay my way through university. I'm a student at the Central Academy of Drama."

quote: Michael Schaffer Mark - to freedom...funny comment, coming from someone who lives in - Utah...don't you think? And why do you think Rick and his alleged girlfriend should move to the European Union?
Michael, I didn't say any place in particuluar that she shold move to, just a place of freedom. She is still a Communist and lives in a Comminust country no matter how well she or they may hide that fact. A taste of freedom is what all the people in China deserve!
quote: Richard Hamilton Seriously? Have you been here before?
Nope, it would be fun to visit but its near the end of my "to visit list". Italy, Greece, and most of Europe and Scandaniva are near the top of my "to Visit" list.
There is just no way in hell that I could take any Comunust Country seriously...ever. You seem to be ignorant of the way it REALLY IS over there. No human rights... Yes! your girlfriend has NO RIGHTS AT ALL! She must comform to her governments wants and needs... its just the way it works in Comminism. Indeed she just might be watcing you for her Government! How would you ever know? Also the poor working conditions and amount of pollition China generates are the worst in the world... Its apparent that you don't know the real China.
quote: Oh, and by the way, I would take ShenZhen over Utah any day!
Rick,
If its so great perhaps you should move over there on your next trip. In short order you will find the crap laying under the glitz. Glitz is VERY easy to create and a great coverup!
I think Utah has been pretty good to you as far as work goes.... Myself having spent time in 49 of the 50 states, quite a bit in many of them, I can definately say that Utah is by far my favorite place, thats why I moved here. U think Muchael also found Utah to be an amazing place. Montana runs a close second with Wyoming third, with Arizona and New Mexico in there next. Having lived in Illinois for most of my life I can speak that it is a most boring place to live and that with awful weather and unhealthy humidity levels. You have to love seeing lots of corn...everywhere!
