The first time I went to a theater, I'd park my cases in a convenient place, open the lids and tell people that they could borrow anything they wanted but if they didn't put it back when they were done, they were liable to end up with a screwdriver sticking out of their eye socket. On stage it got so bad that I kept my good tools for permanent jobs, and brought only the minimum of the cheapest hand tools I could get away with for a given on-call job, the thought being if people were going to steal from me, they'd only get trash.
