Looks very layered... like sheets of paper at different z-spaces. No true depth. Why are they even bothering?
Due to the small size scaling, which besides compressing the x and y size of the pictures also compresses the z, it looks more cutout than it does in "real life" large screen.

Having said that, it still has a lot of a cut-out look. After all, they *are* 2D cartoons and Disney's process was to create 2D depth maps mostly to make the objects rounded instead of mapping to 3D geometry like others do.

Just goes to show, you can't make a 3D purse out of a 2D pig's ear.

colorized B&W= [puke]
3Dized 2D = [puke]

BTW, I love crosseyed 3D pairs. It's so cool because no matter how much she tries, my lady can't make her eyes do it, & she gets really pissed at me when I tell her "Come on, everyone can do it, you're just not trying hard enough"....then I give a slight giggle. She get's REALLY pissed. [Big Grin]

Multi-plane does it so much better without the fake "paper cut-out" look.
How can that be, when the Multiplane used layers of flat artwork? Looks about the same to me, except the characters faces and such are showing a different relief than their bodies.

Now compared to the Fleischer Studios revolving 3D backgrounds... [Wink]

I guess, to my eyes, it has to do with those very subtle hints that prove the shot has REAL depth, and not just an artificial approximation.

That probably sounds like a weird statement considering the point is being made about an animated piece/s of artwork under glass, but the whole point of multi-plane was to give the image some depth. When the camera operator pulls focus from one level to the next, it's those subtle clues that PROVE the shot is real and not an artificial approximation. The same thing can be said for panning shots as well- those different "travel-rates" of the layers give, again very subtle hints, that the shot is real even though it's animation.

Granted, multi-plane doe shave a very "layered" look to it, but it does not purport to be "3D" where it isn't.

I guess my point is that if the producers insist on post-3Ding previously made films, then don't give us images that look like multi-plane with infinite depth of focus as per Julio's example.

Again, this is where I find that multi-plane does a far better job of giving a more believable impression of actual depth when compared to a 3D-ised version.

Sometimes I find things slightly amiss when I come on for my closing shift, but this one looks like it took some effort.

He told me as he left that something was wrong with the platter ring. What I don't understand is why he didn't simply use one of the other two rings we have which do not have the locking pin.

I'm starting to loose hair over things like this. [Roll Eyes]

Why would a platter ring like that have a locking pin in the first place?

So during breakdown the ring won't collapse slightly, which causes cinch scratches. That's why we always stuck a dts case in the ring on the last show if you recall.

I don't recall.

EDIT: Well maybe vaguely. That was like 20 years ago.
