I saw the Grateful Dead perform when I was in high school; that was a memorable show. The headliner was Hella, but I really went to go see Attack of the Giant Squid. They are Experimental/Progressive maybe a slight hint of Jazz into it. My co-worker is the bass player for the band and I haven't had the chance to see them play until now. The show was pretty awesome, loud and rockin' in the enclosed small venue. Most of the live set was improvisational, so that was pretty sweet to get to experience that first hand. Posts: 1219 From: Denver, Colorado Registered: Nov 2003 posted 06-21-2007 02:51 AM                        Just got back from an AWESOME show tonight. Total orgy of the ear if I do say so myself. I saw the band "Tortoise" at The Rhythm Room in Phoenix. This was my first time seeing them live, and before that I've never really sat down and listened to their stuff to really remember what they were like. But when I saw them tonight a whole new found respect for this band was necessary. They are all really multi-talented. I was totally expecting them to be the mid to late 20 group of guys but they are totally older dudes... like mid 30's or 40's. That was just too cool and a total surprise for me and my friends. They are instrumental, sorta jazzy feel, progressive, ambient, and awesome ear noise! The stage was set up to where 2 drum kits face each other dead center in the front, keyboard back center, bass on the left back and lead guitar on the right back, and of course xylophones on the right and left front of the stage. Throughout the whole show every band member kept changing to different instruments, from the keyboard to drums to marimba to bass. It was crazy... and by far the best show I've been to. They played 2 encores! Mad props to these guys... Totally inspiring and its the kind of stuff kids like me want to create but sooo can't because we don't have the mad skills. Oh and I was able to stand right up in front cuz short people like me can totally do that sort of thing. I felt as if I was going to get hit with a drum stick at any moment or it breals and stabs me in the eye. I saw KC & The Sunshine Band at the Humphrey's By The Bay in Point Loma. It was a great outdoor venue. Plus, my friend & I got to meet KC in person after the concert. Other concerts I have been to are: 1) 1988 - Run DMC & The Beastie Boys at the San Diego Sports Arena; 2) 1988 - The Doobie Brothers at the San Diego Sports Arena; 3) 1989 - Mannheim Steamroller at the Wilshire Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles; 4) 1989 - Information Society at Disneyland in Anaheim; 5) 1994 - Michael Crawford's EFX Show at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas (got the second row center table).  |  IP: Logged Damien Taylor Master Film Handler Posts: 493 From: Perth, Western Australia Registered: Apr 2007 posted 06-21-2007 05:04 AM                     I think the last one was a Perth band called Karnivool about 6 months ago, im not sure if they have made it over there yet. The Lovely Luci runs Dispatch and Communications and I put in shifts monitoring 180± radios and get to enjoy the show. Really looking forward to Chick Corea and Béla Fleck, Emmylou Harris, Los Lobos and Allison Krause. Hot and glassy here today at 8750' with the temp expected in the low 80's. From late May until the end of September Telluride hosts close to four festivals per month, including Film, Wine, Balloon, Mushroom, Blues and Brews, Jazz, MountainFilm, Chamber Music, and many others. I didn't know that Information Society had a new lead singer. Now that I know, I, too, don't know how the new singer will be as well. Awesome show, good times. I was lucky enough to see John Frusciante play and sing "For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her", and that was a great bonus. Also, Frusciante and Flea going head to head on guitar/bass for 20 minutes or so was pretty great. Anthony Kiedis doing a back flip off the drum set at the ripe old age of 44 made me feel even more out of shape than normal, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The first songs I remember by these guys are off of "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" when I was a freshman. How old are you when bands that made it big when you were in high school are played on the classic rock station?  |  IP: Logged Mark J. I saw a remote radio broadcast with Bill O'Reily this morning, though I'm not sure if that counts or not. Last year, we saw Michael Flatley in concert, doing his "Lord Of The Dance" stuff. We're going to see Weird Al in August, which will be the third time I've seen him live. If you've never seen Weird Al, it is a GREAT show! Also in August, we're going to see Wicked in Philadelphia. We're really looking forward to that. We may also go see Glenn again in New York city in August for his "Insider's Convention" depending on how finances are.  |  IP: Logged
