Oh well... When I first moved to Utah I worked on a theater.. 8 plex... and it was the architects first... He had the floors graded absolutely flat... he said he didn't know they should be sloped... aparently not only did he never design a theater but he also had never even been in one... It was too late to do much because the concrete was already poured down in the front of some of the theaters. We conveined an emergency meeting with the two guys that were building the place, the contractor and architect. We finally settled on them sloping the remaining 2/3's of grade up towards the hallway to the allowable ADA specs. This necessitated the contractor raising the roofline of the lobby/booth area another 8 feet. So out of the lobbby you walked uphill to the hallway going down the theater entrances and then down into the theaters... That was the strangest one I ever worked on but we saved the project and the auditoriums more or less resembled what a normal slope would be, the concrete guys did an excellent job too. Recently the theater property and adjoining grocery store was bought and both will be razed to make room for a new hospital. May 9-15 at the Heights in Minnesota. Vertigo shows in 70MM at the Astor Theatre in Victoria, Australia on July 6th. Hamlet shows in 70MM at the Astor Theatre on May 21st. I read somewhere that it was also going to be in 70MM at the Virginia Theatre for Roger Ebert's Festival, but I can't find any confirmation. Spread the word! I attended the March 8 showing. And that print is TRASHED!!!) However, it will be shown in Los Angeles at the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Theatre (Samuel Goldwyn) on Friday, APril 25. http://www.oscars.org/events/2001aspaceodyssey/index.html Edit: Actually, I didn't read it carefully. It's been updated to say the showing is SOLD OUT. The Wexner showed previously showed 2001 in 70mm about 5 years ago. Off topic a bit, they also run an outdoor film series (yes, film, not digital...they put a 35mm projector in a truck!) starting this year on June 19 at dusk with THE MUMMY. It's homage to the original projectionist dude...... Presented in 70mm, 6 track magnetic Dolby SR. link I'll be installing a new PanaStereo CSP4600 a fortnight before the screening, it will be feeding a Dolby CP650.
