Speaking of my Wanda kitty... she passed yesterday while I was at work. My bf called me and gave me the news, I was crying so hard I had to leave early. We buried her in his brother's backyard where I can go visit her.
She was my baby girl, I have never in my life been as close to an animal. She knew my moods, and when I was sad or upset, she was always the first one by my side. She was also my companion in the bathroom, everytime I took a shower, she sat right outside of it! She was a spoiled fat cat, and everytime we sat down for a meal, she was instantly there at our feet to catch what we threw her... when food was around, she was the fastest cat in the world. I adopted Wanda when she was four from one of the local shelters, they called her Wanda the Witch because she wouldn't let anyone go near her. Over time we got closer and eventually she became a lap cat, but I was the only one privilaged enough to be able to pick her up.. she wouldn't have it from anyone else. I'm going to miss her everynight that I go to bed and she's not there, she slept next to me everynight... needless to say, last night I didn't sleep very well. I'm gonna miss my baby girl's kitty kisses (as we called it).. if I asked for a kitty kiss she would almost always touch her nose to my face. Wanda was 14 years old.
My bf took some pictures of her the day before she passed, but I'm not really ready to look at them.. he said you could see it in her eyes that she wasn't feeling well. Instead I will post a picture of me and her that we took last week... she looks all pissy.. but that's my boo boo (as I called her).

Thanks Phil and Paul. I really miss her so much, she was my best friend. Some people don't understand how a pet can be your best friend, but as Phil said, they don't pass judgement... they just love you for you. She has been there for me thru everything, and I've had a pretty rocky couple of years... (more then a couple I guess. =P). I go to bed everynight and can't fall asleep.. I miss her laying next to me. =(
Paul, the dal (Maxi) is actually my parents, and yes, they still have her. She is about the same age as Two-Tone and I know they will be devasted when they lose her, as will I even though I am not close by anymore. She hasn't been doing great the last couple years, and basically, I hate to say it but it could happen at any time. =(

Rachel, my condolences to you for your loss.
I too just lost one - had to put down my 14-year-old "Tripod" kitty last month.
She had been born wild in the back yard, and initially my roommate Mike and I were fine with just letting her live back there as a feral kitty. But when I went out to feed her and her litter mates one morning, I noticed she was limping - turned out she was missing her right rear foot. Something had gotten her during the night.
We trapped her and took her to the vet. The vet was amazed that she hadn't died from shock and loss of blood. Anyway, Tripod became an indoor cat that day, though she never lost her feral nature. She'd sometimes sit in the same room with either of us, but she wouldn't let anyone approach or touch her without a big fight. Unless it got cold enough. Then she'd sleep on my feet - as long as my feet were under the covers. Weird cat but cute as hell nonetheless - the tiniest mostly-Siamese adult cat that you've ever seen.
Right around the time that Mike died, and we went through all of the hell that followed, Tripod started to fade away. In the end her liver gave out and I had to put her down. That's the third one-way trip I've had to the vet in the last couple of years (Timber, Zipper (which Mike had to deal with), and Snug preceded Tripod) and I can tell you it doesn't get any easier with practice.
Tripod absolutely worshiped Zipper - she was his groupie and followed him everywhere. I arranged to have Tripod's ashes spread at the same rose garden where Zipper is. They are together again.
So for a couple of months, Chobi (recently renamed from Streak) was the only feline left in my life. Chobi is a very active and vocal (and huge) pure white guy. And lonely - he kept telling me he wanted a playmate. And so now there is Jiji, an all-black kitty (except for a small clump of white hairs on his belly button) adopted from the nearby Heaven Can Wait shelter. Both have golden green eyes, both are named after favorite anime cat characters, and both were born around Memorial Day (Chobi in 2007, Jiji in 2008).
The introductory hissing period is over and they are developing a playful relationship. I hope we will all be together for a long time to come. Pictures will be posted shortly.
