We were able to screen some of those restorations at the Temple Theatre as part of the Great Lakes Cinephile Society conventions that were held there. When they are played full frame at the proper speed, those old films are quite incredible to watch. I especially liked seeing the little notches in the edge of the camera masking that told which camera shot the footage. Many films were shot using just one or two cameras. "Bullet Train") opened the day after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. JR aired this bubbly 3-minute spot but immediately pulled the ad in light of the somber mood of the rest of the country. Now, the ad is airing again on Kyushu and has become quite popular online across Japan. The music is "Boom!" by Swedish-Japanese singer-songwriter Maia Hirasawa. 15,000 people were recruited to do a "human wave" across the island as the first train ran past. The ending voiceover says, "On that day, thank you for waving at us, thank you for smiling and thank you for coming together as one.
