As for the dancing stunt? It's a COMMERCIAL and so no matter how you cut it, it gets no more than an unenthusiastic (and slightly sarcastic) "ho-hum" from me. And in NYC, if that were a REAL audience, what you would hear instead of that canned applause, I guarantee would be quite a few hoots and unfriendly cat whistles -- maybe even a few "Hey, start the damn movie" especially as the commercial went on much too long on screen before what some ad team thought was the oh-so-clever live dance troupe coming out in front of the screen. And the dance routine itself was way too long as well. This might fascinate them in Peoria, but not in NYC. And now for something REALLY impressive -- clicky here and prepare to be amazed. Autodesk released a new free 3D modeling app called 123D that helps people create their own 3D objects and then put them in touch with suppliers of 3D printing or even people who sell 3D printers if they want to get into that business. There's a lot of obvious implications for 3D printing in the graphics business. I'm already dealing with 2D routing tables with limited 3D capability as well as large format digital printers. The 3D printing thing would seem like a natural leap forward. Sure, it can scan at any angle and in any number of dimentions it wants, but no matter what the angle, it can only plot what is visible to the scan. How can it possibly form the proper dementions of the shaft that extends into the gear and form what it can't evaluate? I also can't believe it can form objects precisely INSIDE others. This is very suspect. I bet Disney will have something to say about this. Then the piece said the builders got Disney's approval to build it. I bet they did; they knew Disney would make them dismantel it board by board for copyright infringment if they hadn't. Can they copyright a house?
