I'll still use my 80GB PS3 (the way cool SACD compatible version with the flash card slots and 4 USB ports) primarily for watching Blu-ray movies and playing my RIPed music CD collection off a 1TB hard disc drive. Next week Sony is supposed to roll out version 3.0 of the PS3 system software. Not sure what that is supposed to do for older, full sized PS3 consoles. One sort of nifty thing about the PS3 "Slim" consoles: they have an upgraded HDMI chip set that allows them to bit stream output DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD up to 7.1 channels. I'm not going to spend $300 for another PS3 just for that capability. The internal DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD decoding on full sized PS3 systems accomplishes the same thing. Lord forbid the economy would have to rely off me though. I don't piss away my hard earned cash easily at all. I prefer saving up for any big ticket items and buying them outright. If people saved for purchases, and put a reasonable amount down on home purchases (and didn't pay artificially high sums for those houses), there wouldn't be enough debt to make credit default swaps and mortgage backed securities, et cetera. I may be broke and not have a cool TV, but I don't owe money to anybody but my parents, and I'm not contributing to an economy based on a house of cards. Also, I bought groceries today. Fresh corn and a variety of berries at the farmer's market, and a cheesecake at the grocery store. Yes and no. I'm not convinced at the PS3's ability to decode Dolby TrueHD properly. It always sounds extremely quiet with a low center channel when transferred to my receiver via PCM. Others ave reported that bitstreaming helps fix these issues. I needed another Blu-ray player anyway, so Imight as well go with one that has known quality (PS3) and offers the bitstreaming and has a good price, plus has 120GB of space. Don't care about the SD and flash card slots and whatnot. That stuff didn't need to be there to begin with. It looks better in my room. I just hate these kind of monitors where you have to perfectly angle the screen to see everything. It was 23" and cheaper than my 20" Westinghouse so naturally my incentive to buy and my consumer surplus were much greater  |  IP: Logged
