Had major intestinal surgery and now major complications and will have to have more when two things have been meet. One I pay off the first bill and two I have healed enough for the reattachment surgery. Other than Mrs Lincoln how was the play? LOL I'm so hoping to get this all behind me before new year so I can have a great year next year. I had six months of pain leading up to the emergency. Going digital, while the GM is on vacation. Great timing! LOL All the cat6 was installed yesterday and today. What a clusterF*. Pretty amusing though, and the guys weren't hard to look at either Supposed to get 7 NECs 8am Fri morning... And the Fathom projector moved from house 1 to house 5(smaller, don't have to move stuff around as much). Exciting times. Bittersweet. Had a minor disaster today. Was labeling all the hard drives on the shelf(huge influx) and the projector for house 4 (running half way through Dark Knight Rises) beside me gradually gets REALLY loud, knocking, over the course of about 5-10 seconds. I go investigate, and suddenly the bottom loop disappears and the image onscreen 'smears'. I stop it and immediately see that one of the gate bands just snapped right in front of me, what are the chances!? Thank god I was right there, just the tiny moment from when it snapped to when I hit stop, it tore through about a foot or so of the film. Anyhoo, 15 minutes later, I had the splice made, band changed out, and back on screen with a band from a spare projector. Lots of bugs to be worked out. Tore down a print of Paranorman tonight that only had 4 runs on it, including the screening. Wait till they tell you that their equipment financing arrangments require them to enter into a manditory service agreement, with everthing monitored remotely by a NOC, which effectively prevents you from doing anything in the booth, thus making you digitally disemployed, since they can now get get some minimum wage 'kid' at the box office to do everything now for a lot less money than you're making. Was supposed to be all wrapped up on Wednesday, and it's now Friday and every projector needs manual help starting up in one way or another. It's always different, and each one is different. Automation, sound formats, masking, lens changes, bulb strikes, dowser, ugh. Have yet to have a perfect start on any screen. I keep catching myself welling up in tears when I go to move the build up table, or pack payout brains away.... Stressful. But I really feel sorry for the techs. Poor guys. Also, I far prefer the Dolby d cinema software than the dorami/cenedigm stuff. Much more user friendly.  |  IP: Logged Frank Angel Film God Posts: 5305 From: Brooklyn NY USA Registered: Dec 1999 posted 08-28-2012 09:04 AM                        Any idea what their reasoning was for using so many different brands and types of equipment other than since they are paying for third-party monitoring and maintenance, they don't have to be concerned about the easy of operation uniforminty provides. One thing you can be sure, if a part dies in digital equipment, you are not going to be able to repair it like you could by replacing that band in 15 minutes -- there won't be spare parts laying around that you can pull from a "spare projector." No spare projectors in the basement with digital, and even if there were one in the basement, it would be there because its obsolete, not useable for parts. With digital, just like their ones and zeros, they are either ON and working or OFF and broken...very little inbetween, and certainly not anything that can be repaired in minutes.  |  IP: Logged Buck Wilson Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 894 From: St. Joseph MO, USA Registered: Sep 2010 posted 08-30-2012 01:00 PM                     Boy you've sure got that right. G.M. accidentally put on a 3D trailer to Lawless yesterday. No big deal right? With film, it's just a matter of taking it out, and even with the Dolby software it was just 'right-click, delete, save' it out of the playlist. But this.... This. He took it out, which dis-associated the trailer pack from the movie, and apparently dis-associated the whole clip from the title somehow. After fixing those issues, all appeared to be well. Lawless started as scheduled. Except it wasn't Lawless like it said, it was Total Recall. Customer informed us, we went off screen. VNC into the projector cause the LMS can't directly connect yet for god knows why, 'eject' the playing Total Recall, go to editor, open(which is where Lawless should've been) but it wasn't there, at all. It's as if the movie disappeared. Ended up playing JUST the feature, with no cues or anything, just to get it back on screen. It's going to need built up from scratch now I guess. All this from removing a trailer. We were then told that the easiest way to make a change like that, is to remake the whole trailer pack , and re-associate it with the movie. What a load. And don't even get me started on the fact that you have to re-associate each pack to each movie each week. /RAGERANT  |  IP: Logged William T.
