Everyone is in AWE at A)all the work I've done and B)That I even care to do it. Rofl. No one knew to oil the V4s at every threading. The manager had a large list of things for the tech the next time he came up but he said I took care of all of the issues on it. They are referring to me as the booth god. I know Mid-America spanned Colorado to Ohio, but I only knew the theaters in KC. They had v-4's in most of their theaters. I started at Truman Corners in Grandview Mo, the worked Watts Mill, and Red Bridge. I took the V-4's at Watts Mill and tore each one down to the base, and rebuilt them. We were running side by side, and were using 2 hour reels, which were far too large for them, but it meant if a movie was 1:50 or less, I could run on one, and rebuild the other. It started out as Plaza 4 in 1983, with 4 Xetron/Prevost p55 combos, then expanded to Plaza 8 in 1991 with 4 used Cinemecannica V4Es When I got here, the V4s were running ridiculously loud. One of the intermittents was completely dry, and no one had been pressing the oil button for god knows how long. At least 2 years. They are running MUCH MUCH quieter now. One of them did seize up though and was replaced with a Simplex 1050 sometime in the last 5 years or so. I'm growing pretty fond of the V4s myself. The one in house 5 is darn near silent. It's so hard to keep things decent in this booth. I can clean the booth itself as much as I want, but getting everyone to not trash film is another story altogether. They keep blaming the equipment.... News flash, the equipment aims to please, nor have I had any issues. Can you say 'operator error'?? I'm certainly enjoying myself either way though. In use equipment: 3 Strong HighLight/Simplex 1060/5-star combos 1 Xetron XCN/Century H Combo 3 Cinemecannica V4E/Strong super lumex combos 1 Strong 1050/Strong super lumex combo Other equipment not in use: 4 Prevost P-55s 3 Xetron XCN consoles 2 Strong X90 consoles 1 Simplex XL with older IPC soundhead 1 Cinemecannica V4E 3 SPECO LP 270s 1 Big sky platter sys with MUT More parts than one could shake a stick at.... The xetron consoles appear to be pretty easy on bulbs. The one in use currently has 4400 hours on a 2k bulb, with a used 2k nearby with over 6000 hours on it. Crazy! All platters are SPECO LP-270s. 3 of the 8 are the newer LP-270s. Whoever designed the recessed brain needs shot. I'm down to only one down platter deck from 5+. It's throwing me for a loop right now but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Had a tech come by this am and fix one of the projector bulbs not coming on at all(Total derp issue, lets not go there), a platter deck, and a failsafe switch. Then I spent the day getting caught up on Screenvision ads. And for the first time since being employed there, over a month, I AM OFFICIALLY CAUGHT UP with all programming! And all features have LEADERS! What a novel idea...... Every platter works now, all projectors shut down at the end of shows now, all can be started with automation.... Things are going quite well. MUCH to be organized yet, but things are 'clean' for the most part now. Save for a few projector heads and payout brains. As far as staffing, things are getting better. The GM has made it perfectly clear to everyone employed that I am the only actual projectionist. Anyone else that threads is merely a "projectionist", I say who is actually a projectionist and everyone answers to me as far as the booth is concerned. Certainly helpful. There's one guy that is showing a good amount of interest and care, he's my favorite right now. No one else can even seem to grasp the concept of threading the platters properly let alone the projectors. Things are great, I'm loving it!
