Fixed.
I found this to be distracting, but less so that what we had on Dark Knight. That one had three or so offending spots, which dropped out to a very poorly mixed analog track for quite a bit longer. The assistant manager at that theater called and demanded a replacement reel, and after a bit of hoopla and several very critical phone conversations, we got it, but not until thousands of our customers had been subjected to it. This was with Dark Knight playing with a CP650 and Cat. 701. In Madagascar, which I saw in a theater with a CP55, DA20 and Cat. 701, it was relatively faint, despite being in a loud action sequence. I was probably the only person in the audience to notice it, but I wasn't even listening for it. I still think that studios and labs should be producing content for the most critical audience possible, which is likely projectionists in this case. Since this did not fly under this projectionists radar, I unilaterally condemn it.

Well, Brad, if Dark Knight didn't have it, two things are true. First of all, Deluxe's lab work is even worse than I believed, and my belief was that it was not good. And secondly, they have trained their people to do just that, and tell people whenever there is something wrong that it is an intentional anti-piracy measure. The only thing to be gained here is animosity towards them, which could lead to empathy for pirates, as per Jesse's tongue in cheek statement. I happen to take piracy very personally (or I would, if some jackass would just give me the opportunity), but I also take people intentionally screwing up my presentation personally.
